So my mission this morning was to wash some clothes. My host had kindly told me of a laundromat nearby so off I wandered with washing bag in hand. The laundromat is not open until 2pm. So back to home I wandered, washing bag in hand. As that scuttled my morning plans I made my way down to the town square. After walking around and taking some happy snaps I jumped on a little choo choo train tour. I was a bit disappointed with the tour. They went all around town, which was great because Prague is magnificent. However, the tour information was very brief and I only got half of it because the speaker system was a bit dodgy. Add in the suspension on those little trains is not great. I saved my feet but my butt paid the price.
After the ride I made my way back to home for a second attempt at laundry. This time the laundromat was open but I got lost on the way there. Makes sense considering I walked straight there this morning with no dramas. Its another one of those laundries who do everything for you. Just drop the stuff off
and pick it up later. I stopped at a cafe for lunch. Just after I sat down the rain came pouring down, so I made it a long lunch.
After lunch I just went wandering the streets. I found a gorgeous garden which I now understand was part of Wallenstein Palace. They had a huge pond with orange coloured fish in it, they looked like carp but I don't think European carp come in orange. As I walked around there were lots of peafowl, including this pure white peacock. At the end of the garden there was this huge wall that looked like part of a cave, at least that's what I thought until I saw faces carved into the wall. I'm not sure if the whole wall was carved to appear cave like, or if that was just the natural rock formation and they added a few carvings.
I did see an accident on my meanderings. A black passat rear ended a motorcyclist and sent him skating across the cobblestone. I hurried up the street to him to see if I could help (not knowing if I'd be any use as I don't speak the language) By the time I
got there an older gent had walked out to make sure the motorcyclist was OK. He was, picked himself up off the road, he looked quite shaken. But he started up his bike and continued on his way.
Some random observations about Prague.
1) apparently this is the place to get married. I spotted about five weddings today. I also saw one funeral. Its almost a movie
2) its very musical. There are buskers everywhere. They play everything fro traditional czech music (which sounds a bit jazzy to me) to contemporary music. I saw a string quartet playing ABBA, a dude with bagpipes in the town square and one dude on Charles bridge playing a didgeridoo, with bongos and maracas. Kudos for the mix of cultures.
