So I get back from southern Italy, am in Florence for 3 days and then go to Prague! It was amazing! It was definitely the best weekend I have had since I've gotten here. Granted, most of them have been spent traveling, but it was just so much fun.
Okay, so Thursday was really chaotic and filled with finishing last minute stuff for school and I didn't even get to pack til about 5. Anyway, we left Florence at 8 and hopped on the bus to Prague. It took forever to get there though We didn't arrive at our hostel until 10am the following morning. Luckily, we thought ahead and brought tylenol PM with us and we took that... a half hour later we were all passed out.
When we got to Prague, we just washed up a bit and then headed out into the city. The city itself is absolutely beautiful. I can definitely understand why so many people study abroad there. There is so much to do and the city is gorgeous, it looks like only princes and princesses lived there in the past and there aren't nearly as many tourists in Prague as there are in
Florence. Granted, in the middle of the day there were many many people in the main squares, but besides from that, it was really cool being there. Plus, it's really entertaining to read and try to pronounce their words. It's somewhat like German and some of their words don't have any vowels in them so it looks impossible to pronounce. So we basically just did a lot of walking around. We went to lunch at this place that had some traditional Czech food. the Czech Republic is cheap... but it's definitely not famous for its food for a good reason. Otherwise, the girls and I just wandered a bit and looked into a bunch of shops (found an H&M!) and walked through a market that had a lot of food items and souvenirs. Eventually we made out way back to the hostel and had dinner there and got ready to go out.
That first night we went to this club that had five floors. Each floor had a different feel to it ranging from hip-hop on the bottom floor to 80's/90's music on the 4th floor. They all had their dance floors and looks to them, they also each
had their own bar (or two) so we decided to embrace it all and got a beer on each floor. It was so cool since it was just so cheap (and good too) so we really lucked out and the entire weekend was really cheap. It also really helped that I got this trip for half price too. We all had so much fun out there dancing and pointing and laughing at other people (ie these guys there for a bachelor party that came in buzz lightyear and power ranger costumes). When we left that place, we couldn't get hot dogs out of our minds so we went on a search for them. Literally, a search. We asked these canadians and the brits if they knew, but they didn't. Looking at my pictures, we did find them in the end!
On Saturday, we woke up late and had a leisurely morning. When we got out of the hostel, we went to the Prague castle and I took a million pictures there. My dad definitely would've teased me about making a flip book with all the pictures I took. It was just cool being around a castle. Although, we were
totally expecting to enter and see lavish dining rooms and bed rooms, sitting rooms, and more living quarters, but instead it was more like a huge cathedral and the castle grounds. Still interesting. I think we were all freezing though. It was pretty cold in Prague. Definitely solid fall weather. After the castle, we walked into town and searched for Bohemia bagels. We heard that they were pretty decent, so naturally we had to check it out. They were okay. There are no bagels like the ones in NY. After, we went to the shopping mall (?) and looked around there for awhile. Ashley and I went into a supermarket and for these Czech wafers that were sold everywhere in Prague. So we figured we had to try it. They were rather tasty.
We just walked around a little more, we split up. Maxann and Molly went to the Rangers game to try and get something for her friend and Ashley and I wanted to wander the city some more. I was definitely happy doing that. Getting back to the hostel was quite an adventure though. Basically, we came to a point where we had to be back at
the hostel, but didn't know exactly how to do it since we were faced with a decision... illegally get on the tram and risk getting a ticket equivalent to about $150 or find a shop that was still open and available with tram tickets. We opted safely and went to go find a shop. It was just more comfortable knowing that we had a ticket in a foreign place because we definitely stood out.
Later we got ready to go out and went to a more local bar. It was packed. They were playing music all from the 80s and 90s. Czech people must love that stuff. It was an interesting place. Not as much fun as the first night, but I think we were all just tired.
At the end of the night we ended up not paying for our tram ride back to the hostel, go figure.
At 8am Sunday morning, we left the hostel and went to Munich for Oktoberfest!
