Hi everyone,
Well, now that you've had a chance to see Cairo, I'll share some of the adventures in Prague.
We arrived the day before yesterday. The flight was pretty smooth, with very interesting scenery below. We flew over the Greek Islands and were low enough to see them. Beautiful! Lots of color! Once again, it was party time in the back of the plane! We're a happy bunch!
We landed in Prague and were met by our ground guides immediately. It was also time to collect our winter clothing bags from the plane (we loaded them in Whitehorse........). You may remember at the beginning of the trip, I told you a bit about the Legacy of the Travelling Pants movie......and how I equated this trip to my Story of the Skinny Jeans. Well, the "witching hour" was coming near..........I got my hands on my little brown bag in the hotel room, took out my winter jacket and the skinny jeans.........and wondered........will they still fit (comfortably)?????? You saw in many of my pictures that we ate and drank very well, but I have also been very diligent with my exercise program. Well, guess what????? The jeans fit!!!!! Hooray!
Back of the plane fun!
I told you it was a happy group back there! I was not certain, quite frankly, that they would. But they do, and I can even sit down in them, and breathe too! oh happy day!!!!!!
So, we had dinner at the hotel; the meal was served (vs a buffet). Very nice! Early to bed. Early to rise.
Yesterday, we had a 2 1/2 hour walking tour around the Old Square which is very near our hotel (Hotel Mercure). You may notice in some of the pictures that there aren't the big happy smiles on all the faces. I'm afraid that "the" cold bug that had been "living" in the other 2 groups has now hit our "blue" group. Many of us have the cold, coughing, headache, etc. that goes with it and are feeling a bit draggy.........but that hasn't stopped us from getting out there! I really tried to out-run it, but no such luck. oh well.
Our hotel is old, and typical European. The rooms are small and quaint. The windows open! Hooray for me (I don't think Leona is as happy about that, but we do have nice duvets on the bed, so she's ok!). The temperature is much cooler than we have experienced
in the last 3 weeks, and I love that too.
So, out and about yesterday on the walking tour. I am in my sandals, and light jacket, while others are bundled with hats, scarves, etc. I am very comfortable and loving this weather.
The pictures will show you some of the various architecture of this area of the city. Very beautiful! We stopped mid-point in a cafe for a latte! Yum! There are markets all around, outdoor food stands, some familiar stores (Bata, for instance), hot wine stands (double yum!), and lots to see! We all enjoyed the walk and the fresh air. General consensus is that this is a City worth a return trip. There is so much to see and do! (Elizabeth, thanks for the tips on shopping and eating.)
Our tour guide left us and then we were on our own. Our little group headed to a tiny little Italian restaurant for lunch. The others were quite chilled and were looking for a good bowl of soup. Minestrone is what we got, and it was stupendous (that's a rank higher than "amazing"!). What a little gem of a restaurant.......great atmosphere, cheap prices, yummy good
and everyone warmed up! Then we headed out for a bit of shopping around the Square.
From there, it was back to the hotel for a while. Leona and I hosted an informal "Happy Hour" in our room, for some of the Happy People we have met on the tour. It was fun. A small but cohesive group! (Don't know what happened to Ben and Carl........their loss!)
Then it was time to hop on the bus and head to the Fantastika Black Light theatre for "The Aspect of Alice" performance. It was very different, quite unusual, interesting, with talented performers. It was difficult for many of us to concentrate because not everyone was feeling up to snuff. The music was lovely. Art, you would have enjoyed it; I was thinking of you!
The performance was over by 9 p.m. and I think everyone was ready to head back to the hotel and off to bed! I know I was! I was popping Tylenol, Hall's mentho-lyptus, and whatever else I could get my hands on. I was dragging! Had a good sleep though and this morning, I was more than ready for another day.
We had free
Around our hotel
On the walking tour time this morning (Monday morning). Had a late breakfast and then joined "the sisters" because we knew we wanted to do some specific shopping. We headed out to the mall (near our hotel) and had a great time browsing around. Christmas decorations are up and the places are looking very festive. We hit some of the markets also.
Back to the hotel and to our room where we had some left-overs from the Happy Hour for lunch. We just sat and visited for a while and I'm killing time now till we leave for the city tour shortly.
So that's our life up to this point. Enjoy the variety of pictures again! Thanks for your comments and e-mails. Love getting them! Once again, there are lots of photos included here, so be sure to click on the numbers 1-2-3, etc. to see them all!
Happy Pat
