01 Brijuni Islands
View of the islands from the boat. Geo: 44.9735, 13.7542
This morning I caught a bus to Fazana and from there I booked myself on a tour of the Brijuni Islands- which make up the Brijuni National Park. After a 20 minute boat ride we arrived on the island. The former Yugoslavia leader Marsal Tito spent 6 months of each year on these islands. He loved animals- dead and alive. There is a safari park here and a museum with many stuffed animals from all over the world. Most animals were given to him as gifts and died before arriving, so he had them stuffed. He also liked to hunt the ones that made it here alive. Rich people can stay here at the three palaces on the islands. There are also some Roman ruins here and an olive tree from the 4th century. Most of the tour was us sitting on a little train and going around the island. At the end we had time to wander around until we had to catch the boat back to the mainland.
