Edit Blog Post

So, we've been back a few weeks now and I thought I'd round off these blogs by imparting some knowledge (aka a brain dump!)

1. The people we met in all three countries were really welcoming and all could speak at least a little English (and certainly more than our smattering of Croatian)

2. Service in restaurants was fantastic

3. Vegetarians are well catered for in bigger towns and in smaller places along the coast there is a heavy Italian influence to the cooking, so you can get by on pasta and salad

4. Most of the roads in Croatia and Montenegro are in good condition, but less so in Bosnia

5. Drivers are sensible in Croatia, but less so in Bosnia and Montenegro

6. Cost of meals and alcohol are at least a third less than you'd pay in the UK and less in most places. A beer costs about £1.80, a decent fresh coffee about 80p and a cocktail usually about £4.00. We had one particularly lovely three course meal in old town Zagreb, with bread, a bottle of wine and a bottle of water and it came to £15.00 a head

7. Unless you want to get stuck in traffic just to visit Budva Old Town, having fought through the tacky New Town, head for Kotor Old Town instead. Stunning with plenty of places to eat or chill out with a drink and people watch, lots of history and culture and the view of the marina and lake is stunning

8. The cocktails and the spa massage at Hilton Dubrovnik at great!

9. If you are in Bosnia Herzagovina they will take Kuna and Euros in most places

10. The underground car park next to The Grand Esplanade in Zagreb is WAY cheaper than the Esplanade's own car park and only a one minute walk away

11. Always carry your camera, because you will keep coming across random old castles and bits of history, not mention stunning scenery

12. If you fancy an adrenaline rush, compete with sheer drops, height and hairpin bends, definitely do the Old Kotor to Cetinje Road.. On and take €10 for the zip wire across the valley!

13. Even if you've made a plan before you left home don't be afraid to change it at the last minute. Just see where it takes you.

THE END
