Blue Grotto
the entrance/exit to the Blue Grotto is via a shallow tunnel, it is best to sit in the bottom of the boat! Still on our way to Hyvar. We decided to detour to the island of Vis and stayed overnight -why? Because we could!
Once we left Milna we stopped at a bay on Brac and had a swim, beautiful clear aquamarine coloured, slightly greener than the water at the back of Rottnest. Very calm, just like swimming in a pool but without heating!Took a bit of acclimatising but once in it was fantastic.
Back on board and away we went. Starting out motoring, went to sails once out of the channel and got along at 5-7knots. The skipper and most of the crew even had a sleep while I stood watch. Jane started lunch and we had a production line to make sandwiches. Very nice they were too.
We stayed at Vis so we could look at the Blue Grotto. We were going to sail but a man came along ( as they do) and offered us a tour of the island and the visit to the Blue Grotto for 300 kuna each., it will take about 4 hours and we will be in Hyvar tonight.
We all went for a walk and bought provisions for dinner. Clem,
Sal and Ken hired bikes, Jane went off on her own and Norm, Linda and I continued with our walk. Jane was not in sight when we returned to boat and after an hour or so I was getting a bit worried so Sal and I went for another ride to look for her. Not in sight still! All was well tho she came running up as we headed back to the boat. She had come back twice and nobody was there so she went to a wine bar where they were playing blues on vinal on a record player, pops and scratches and all! After Jane joined us Sal remarked that I had dropped something. As I looked behind she said "you dropped your tension, it is in a puddle behind you" and Ithought I had hidden it quite well! Linda who has had previousexperience of my children going missing cmmented that she wa not going away with Ken and I again as we as always losing our children!
Last night we next Garyand Louise who are retired and living aboard their catamaran. A very nice couple who were in Croatia as the terms of the visa was
that they. Had to leave Europe for 3 months every six months. They came on board for a few vinos and shared our purchases of local cheeses and salami and also their experiences of sailiong around the world. We ran out of wine so Sal and went across to the Vinotek which was a cellar. So we tasted the local whites and roses, selected two roses and a white then some fig cake and then some lumencello. The wine label was Magic (margitch) which means little donkey in the Vis dialect. It took us a while to select the wine during which Linda cooked up a storm. Chicken curry, spinach in yoghurt and black rice. yummy, so much for losing all those kilos with lots of walking! The rose was so nice Clem went back for another bottle.
Reading through I realise I have not said anything about the boat. It is a Lagoon 400 Catamaran with 4 cabins with ensuites. There are two cabins in each of the hulls, limited storage space in the cabins but enough. Upstairs is a kitchen/dining area with a wrap around shelf under the window which stores all of the bits we need
on a regular basis, cameras, laptops, ipads, jackets hats sunscreen - you get the picture! The window looks forward to the bow. Through the kitchen and outthe back (stern) is another undercover seating area with plenty of room for us all in both areas. The bridge is at the back too. There are two sets of steps down to the water one on each hull and the plank leads from here to the wharf when we are berthed. There is also ample area at the bow with a trampoline and the roof of kitchen/dining to walk/lie on. The pictures I had seen on the web did not do it justice as it looked quiet chunky.

Hi!
Did you look under the clothes rack for Jane? Haha Love mum's curries :) Sounds like you are all having a ball and even mum is enjoying the boat. I'm pretty sure she didn't join you for a swim though. Sarah x
