I begrudgingly got up to my 07:30 alarm this morning in order to make use of the hotel gym before breakfast this morning. I have been pleased to find that after letting myself off the hook in all things gym, food and fitness on this trip so far, that I was already looking forward to getting back into the gym and into a good routine once I get home. Reminding myself that I genuinely enjoy what it has to offer rarer than doing it all out of some sort of sense of duty as some people seem to think. I knew I'd be tired, so I'd bought an energy drink the day before. I hit the pretty basic gym on the top floor of the hotel for just over an hour, enjoying the lovely panoramic views of the beach and port below, before heading back to the room to shower and change for breakfast.
The hotels breakfast was pretty decent and included some American brekkie items like waffles and pancakes, not that I had any. We filled our boots then went back to the room to chill out and pack up before we checked out and walked back to the
port to catch our 13:00 ferry back to Split. On arrival we made our way over to our AirB&B place in the midday sun. Thankfully it was pretty central and our host was there waiting for us. Once we had plotted a number of points of interest and potentials for dinner out on Google maps we creamed up again and headed out to explore. We made a quick detour down to the bus station to book up our shuttle bus to the airport e next day then we wandered through the park near our place and found the roman walls of the old town.
We only really had this afternoon and evening in Split, given our 10:30 airport bus booking for the next day, but this was all we really needed to be honest as there wasn't an awe full lot to see. There were numerous market stalls in and around the walls which we wandered around and purchased a new set of cards (Dan had lost his in Prague) and I bought a sewable patch for Split/Croatia (I am buying one in each city we visit). We checked out the Diocletian's
palace within the walls and a few
other little fortifications. We made a stop at a bakery shop to sit and have a sort of rolled up izza slice wrap. I also got a spinach and cheese pastry but realised that my eyes had been bigger than my belly as the wrap was more filling than I'd expected, Dan got an ice cream but I was stuffed. Then we headed down to the waters edge and the promenade which runs along it. We walked all the way to the end opposite the port and took a few pics of the lovely view of the city. Croatia was certainly the prettiest and most photogenic landscape we had visited so far, the waster in Hvar was wonderfully clear. We made our way back across town, checking out the restaurant we planned to visit for dinner.
Tired, hot and walked out, we spent a few hours of the early evening catching up wi our emails and social media stuff etc and showered and got ready for dinner. We also cracked out our new Croatian cards and started up a new 'series' (best of 5 games) of 'Shit Head'. So far I was winning 4 series to 0, but Dan
put himself in a good position to take one back with his 2 - 1 in games before we headed out to dinner. We had picked a place called Bepa! which was in a little square within the roman walls and served some classic Croatian foods but with certain twists and international influences. We were quite lucky to get a table but we're glad we did. The food and beer was good and moderately priced. We only went for main courses, opting to grab an ice cream from a stall as we walked around instead of getting a desert here.
We wandered back through the old town and along the port side promenade taking similar pictures to earlier but with different results due to the lights and darkness. There was quite a lot of live music going on in a few different spots, we had noticed hat a band was playing in the park next to our place when we headed out for dinner and we're pleased to find anger one was still going as we headed back home. We stayed and listened to a few songs, including Purple Rain before heading back to our apartment. I caught up
with Dad and Claire and Dan and I finished our series of cards with Dan coming out on top! I figured I had to let him win once otherwise he'd give up on it :-D
