First night out with the Busabout group was pretty big - our hosts took us into a place called Kiva Bar. They sold 1L jugs of any cocktail for only 170 Kuna (about €22) - quite a few were getting passed around. Needless to say there were lots of sore heads on Sunday... :/ Breakfast is served between 8 and 9am (tight window). Missed it for our first morning. Was soooo tired and not feeling very well (part hangover, part seasick). Eventually dragged myself out of bed, just in time for a visit to the national park on an island called Mljet. It had two big lakes with crystal clear water and lots of little islands. One of these islands had an old monastery on it - you could hire kayaks to get over there (or take a boat). We went with our hosts recommendation to hire bikes and ride out to where one of the fresh water lakes meet the ocean. So glad we did that - it was really beautiful!! Apparently the national park used to be riddled with snakes, so they introduced Mongooses (or Mongeese - both are acceptable plurals for Mongoose, according to Google / Wikipedia) to
kill them off...which worked, but the Mongooses also killed all the birds - as a result it is eerily quiet in there!! Managed to swallow a couple of bugs while riding around - bit of extra protein I guess!?!
Back onboard, the crew prepared a feast for our dinner - varieties of BBQ meat and veggies, salad, bread, hot chips, ajvar (a delicious, traditional Croatian capsicum spread) and cocktails!! We decided on an early night and were bed by 10 on the Sunday - bit hard with our fellow travellers who backing it up with another big one. Very funny listening to their drunken game of "never have I ever..."!! Again, lots of sore heads - several people didn't rise until lunchtime. Georgia and I were two of the few people feeling good 😊 😊
Was really choppy on the way to Dubrovnik - very glad I wasn't hungover for that. As it was I threw up my breakfast, just from feeling seasick. Very yummy gnocchi and beef ragu for lunch (cooked by our chef, whose name is Happy). Then on the bus to Old Dubrovnik for some sightseeing. It was raining pretty much all day!! We were drenched before
we even started looking around. Georgia and I found somewhere to sit down for coffee and were able to dry off a bit. Then bought ourselves a cheap umbrella each, before walking the beautiful 15th century wall of Dubrovnik. Met up with our group and all piled back onto the bus, bound for our boat. Bit of competition for the showers - everyone was keen to warm up after being stuck in the rain all day. Only the first few were lucky enough to get hot water...this did not include me 😞 😞 Out for dinner at our Busabout host's favourite restaurant, then onto a place that sold cocktails in buckets!! It was another big night all round... We ended up at some nightclub where we danced till the wee hours. A lot of people were feeling the pain on Tuesday, including our host, who didn't get out of bed until lunchtime. Stopped in a beautiful location so people could swim, then shortly after arrived at our destination for the night - an Island called Korčula. Had some time to kill before dinner, so we wandered around town with some of the girls, found a place to get coffee and
use wifi. I was feeling really homesick all afternoon and decided not to join the others for dinner. Just chilled in our little cabin. Slept for soooo long on Tuesday night!! All the dancing and drinking must've been taking it's toll. Everyone was starting to come down with a cold - I was still recovering from last week's cold but woke with a sore throat on Wednesday. Another quality feed provided by our crew, as we approached the island town of Makarska - our host gave his usual rundown on the history of our destination and what there was to do. They don't have sandy beaches like back in Oz - it's all little pebbles and rock faces. Makarska doesn't have the old town feel of many other places we've been to on this tour. It's a resort island with a water park, beaches and lots of other tourists. After a swim and sun bake, we found ourselves a little bar for some cocktails. Lots of people are hitting the wall after four straight nights of partying!! But, obviously these people are machines!! Yet another big night for most on Wednesday. I shared a bottle of red wine with one
of the girls over dinner and we couldn't finish it quickly enough, so one of the guys drank it straight out of the carafe with a straw...there is a great photo of him making 'yuk face' 😊 😊 Daily swim stop in a secluded little bay - first time I got in the water and it was freezing!! Lunch onboard before we made our way to the next destination for our second last night, being Omiš. It was Pirate Party night on board, so everyone got dressed up, including our trusty barman Dario. I wasn't up for another big one on Thursday and retired to bed after dinner. We were lucky to have gorgeous weather for our last day on the boat. Not many were up for drinking after having had an epic night. However, I was feeling fresh as a daisy 😊 😊 We arrived back in Split mid afternoon Friday - in the exact spot we had left 6 days earlier. Everyone had to settle their bar tabs on the boat. Some of the guys were in for a rude shock with how much they owed...lol!! There was no group dinner planned, so Georgia and I went with
some of the girls to grab a feed. Later that evening, most of the group went out for a few drinks. The nightclub was full of young, attractive people, including lots of girls in very short dresses. We looked like a bunch of hobos in thongs - felt very underdressed!!
Back onboard and straight to bed, as we all had to be up, packed and off the boat by 9am. Our backpacks feel very heavy after a 7 night break. Said farewell to those rushing off for flights or trains. Most of the group is staying in Split for at least one night, so we found somewhere to have breakfast together ...12 serves of eggs benedict, 6 serves of bacon and egg baguettes, 2 champagne breakfasts and 20 juices - there is good money to be made from hungry, weary travellers!! So the unexpectedly crazy part of our journey has come to an end. It's sad to say goodbye to our new friends but I'm relieved to be off the boat. It was a fun and beautiful island tour - I highly recommend it to anyone wanting to see the Croatian Islands. (Just be sure to pack some Panadol and
leave your judgement at the port)
