Well, the weather was not good today! I guess it was bound to happen sometime but I was devo that it happened on the day we were going to go to the Elaphite Islands. We all met in the lobby at 9 as previously instructed where Melinda advised the Captain of our boat said we couldn't sail today, due to the weather. Apparently all cruises were cancelled for today. She was busily trying to work out an alternate itinerary for the day so said we should perhaps go and get coffee while she worked it out. Kim, Don and I headed toward the beach area (with rain jackets and umbrellas) to find somewhere to have coffee but there was hardly anything open. We ended up finding a place and just killed some time there.
Melinda organised for us to visit the War Photography Museum in the old town, followed by lunch on the old harbour. So Damir drove us into the city for the last time and we all said farewell to him. I was really fortunate as he also bought my luggage with us and I was able to meet up with my AirBnB host and leave my bags
in my apartment. There was a bit of stair climbing and lifting of my bag required but my host had given me tips on how to get to the apartment with the least amount of stairs. My quick, first look at the apartment made me feel pretty happy I had picked this one!
The museum was really quite amazing and confronting too. It showed images from the war, since 1991, and you sometimes wondered how the photographer was able to capture some of the shots (without getting killed himself). It really bought home the horrors of war that these people all faced over the past 27 years.
We then headed to our lunch location that was pretty nice, all considering. We sat at tables right on the water but undercover and were really fortunate to get these tables, as the restaurant was packed with tourists and we were a bit worried about what we would end up with. Lunch was nice and we enjoyed all being together for the last time. After lunch we all walked back to the Pilé Gate where Robyn, John and I (all the ones staying in the old city tonight) said farewell to
the rest of the group. Robyn, John and I made plans to catch up for dinner and Melinda said she would most likely join us. I went back to my apartment to acquaint myself a little more and settle in. It really was lovely with a lot of room! It also had a little balcony which gave me a good outlook over the rooftops.
I headed out around 6:30 to have a look around and check out some shops. Melinda sent me a text around 7:15 to say she had a table at the restaurant we were going to meet at so I headed there. Shortly after Robyn and John joined us and we decided to share a seafood platter, some fried calamari and a salad. It was all very nice and we had a great night.
