Sad goodyes at Haris Youth Hostel in Sarajevo, took tram #1 to the bus station, i could not find it at first then a lady told me it is just behind the post office building, bought my ticket for 12:30pm bus. The trip takes 8 1/2 hours. I fell asleep quickly in the bus. 2 hours later I woke up to some interesting scenery, we passed through dozens of towns the route takes us all the way north to the Srpska Republic territory into Banja Luka, One town had a billboard that say they are a UNESCO heritage site candidate, cant remember the name. The scenery up north is quite amazing, we started going through mountain passes, following a stagnant blue gren river. Then before crossing this metal bridge we stopped for customs on the bOsnian side, again I did not get stamped, just passport check then over the bridge is the Croatian side, the border is within the town Stara Gardiska. We have to get off the bus and queue up to get stamped in. this was already about 6 hours into the journey.
Fell asleep again and woke up we are in the vicinity of Zagreb, the bus
station is close to the tram lines which was good, found a tisak that is still open bought a tram ticket and hopped on tram 7 to Ravnice. Itwas quite difficult to tell the station stops, there was no overhead announcements and some have no signs, i just have to rely on the direction that says 2 stops after a football field to my right, and by chance I saw the field, the reflection inside the tram made it difficult to see the outside, on what i thought was the stop, no sign was to be seen so before getting off I asked a lady if it indeed is Ravince stop she nodded. Walked past condo buildings, wsnt sure where the 2nd left is, it so hapens a guy was walking his dog and saw a backpacker(me) kinda lost and said go staight one more street and turn left, thanked him profusely for that.
Vera was waiting for me at the reception. My room is on the next building, wait a minute this looks familiar, this is the same hostel we stayed in when I travelled to Central Asia with Dragoman! And same room! Took photos to show friends
from the trip especially Nige. And as I remember it the rooms are small and tight, good thing there was only two of us there.
Next morning, took the tram to the bus station, changed TCs, 50 dibdobs commisssion about 7 euros but have no choice, then bought my ticket for Vienna for tomorrow 40 euros more or less. 6am departure but Vera assured me trams will be frequent so no worries. Since I bought a day pass for the tram i took another tram, #6 from the bus station to get to the center of town and kept walking at every direction, there are signs for sights so not easy to get lost, it was cloudy and gloomy so photos are dull. Had lunch of cevapi, delicious sausages with fried pita bread and onions! Then walked around again, bought some tangerine oranges at the green market, tried to find the sports museum, found the address and asked 2 girls that came down the stairs and it turns out they were looking for the same place but it is closed, bugger.
Walked around some more, saw churches, cathedrals etc. etc. The building facades are nice. Got tired of
walking saw sat in the net for a bit. Found a thai restaturant in the tourist map listing, thai bin i think is the name and just so happens to be only 2 stops away from my hostel by tram so i called them and asked them for directions. it was only 4pm so decied to have another walk and ended up in the Archaeological museum, the set up was good and they have a Zagreb mummy which was an egyptian mummy i think, they actually have abetter Egptian collection than the national museum in Cairo, not by volume of displays and collection but by the was they prererve and present things, it is neat and well protected from the elements.
Found the Thai restaurant with ease, had pad thai which i have been longing for since Kosovo. Went back to hostel and packed all my things ready for an early start the next day. set my watch for 4:30 am and tram should be operating by then to take me to the bus station, and Vienna bus departs at 6am.
