Well, todays blog won't take long to read 'cos we didn't do a lot because it rained!
We did need to go to the market in the next town about 8km away as we didn't have anything for dinner so we gave Cindy a short run in the countryside. The villages on SS1 which runs north towards Zagreb are all just a few houses,a market about the size of a 4 Square store at home and a restaurant if they are lucky.
After last nights delicious tuna salad and in the light of nothing else in tins we could understand or any edible looking fresh meat we opted again for tuna! You can't go wrong with a tin of tuna in Croatia because the word is spelt the same in Croatian as it is in English or at least it has been on the two tins we have now bought.
The mist was low on the hills as we drove along the highway so we didn't really get to see any scenery in our short trip out and perhaps tomorrow will be clearer when we head into Bosnia.
We were back for a cup of morning coffee and a Skype
call with great friends Ruth and Owen to catch up on their lives in Tauranga. It is amazing how clear their calls are and it is almost like they are nearby rather than thousands of kilometres away in NZ.With the time difference they were having coffee before it was time to go to bed whereas we still had Saturday ahead of us,even if it was raining.
It is amazing how quickly time can pass when their is administration of things to be done which is often not possible when we have been travelling.catching up on and clearing emails, banking, organising photos and videos etc etc. While one of us was using the laptop the other was reading or tidying their sui and it willtcase or snoozing!Gretchen has allowed me to use her Kindle and I have purchased a non fiction book about the Sarajevo siege during the Balkan War and it will be interesting to visit a couple of the places that I have already read about in the book and see what they look like today.
The rain cleared in late afternoon and we headed out for a short walk and to take a few photos and video of the area
we have been staying in.For once when we have been out walking we saw a small flock of sheep near where we are staying. There are no fences so we are not sure how the sheep don't roam off.
With the rain the temperature outside cooled from yesterdays mid 20's to mid teen's although we only noticed the change when we went outside as our apartment is very well insulated.
One of the odd things we have noticed about the land in the immediate area are crater like formations which almost look like they were created by an explosion although the Balkan War was not fought fiercely in this area so that is unlikely and we can only assume they are a natural occurrence. There are many of them back to the main road and in fact the road we are on which is 2km long has twists and turns avoiding where these craters are.
Then it was home for a committee meeting to plan where we go after Albania and get a draft plan sorted out so that when it comes time we can book accommodation on the route we intend to take into Greece and then north
to Bulgaria.
The tuna salad was again delicious and even the wine mixed with soda water has become bearable.
With a long drive ahead of us tomorrow and no idea how long it might take to cross the border into Bosnia we were earlier to bed tonight in readiness for tomorrow.

Just discovered a word in Italian that has a different meaning in English-piano apparently means a floor or level in a building in Italian but of course is a musical instrument in English (and probably a few other languages too!)
