We decided to go to Ghent today, a nearby town that was only 20 minutes away by train and according to the guidebooks, was worth a visit. We walked to the bus/train station and enquired about tickets, the bus was only €2 each way, so we decided that was nice and cheap and seemed a good option at the time. Got on the bus and kept an eye out for the town, an hour and half later we arrived in Ghent!! The bus took the longest route possible and went through every town on the way- I did get a chance to have a snooze though!
It wasn't very busy here, but wet. The weather for us in Belgium hasn't been great, but cloudy and wet, which surprises me as it's nearly the European winter. First thing we did was go to the Belfry and at the top we were able to see the whole town. There many churches and saw a castle. While we were there the bell rang- very loud! Then went into St Bavo's cathedral- a gothic style church. There is also more of Rubens' work here. Below the church there was an art exhibition-
02 Another church
Another church that we could see from the bell tower. saw more stuff. When the left the church the sun came out!! yeah!
Walked towards the castle, decided against going in it. Have seen a few castles and will see many more. Ghent has canals like Brugge- very peaceful and pretty.
Caught the bus back and slept knowing that it was going to be a while before we had to get off.
Spent the evening in the bar playing Monopoly with two American girls and drinking fruity beer.
