No school today, but I was still in the mind-set that we had a rotary meeting. So off I was to the usual meeting place. However both Eliza, Chris, and Morgan forgot, so I was the only exchange student there this time. It was fine though, because I met two guys that’d just recently come back from a two week exchange in Switzerland and Turkey. They both did mini presentations on how their trip was, and as we sat down to a great 3 course Belge lunch, I got talking to them and found out that they played the drums and the guitar, and had a brother that played the bass. So I got their numbers, and I was stoked to be adding more musicians to my list that I’ll hopefully pull together some sort of act from and perform live someplace. There’s a really high key club called ‘Spirit Of 66’ really close to my house which I now make it my goal to perform there sometime this year. I’m thinking maybe a pink Floyd cover band, or sublime, or recreate the Muttonheads. I dunno. Anyway the meeting drew to a close and the boys and their dad dropped me home. The rest of the day was pretty laxed.

Today was a rehearsal of the Africian gospel band, so I took the bus to Verviers, and walked to the church to meet with Gludhy and the band. Their practices are long and really repetitive, but as I learnt later that day, they’re going into the recording studio in late march, so they have reason to be meticulous I guess. We started around 12 and finished at 5. I was knackered by the end, and it was a quiet night in Verviers that night, so I slept.

Today was Friday ! and meant that today was the 20th birthday party of my 3
rd host sister. Today I realised I was in desperate need of a pair of new shoes. From previous conversations with rotary students, they seem to stress the importance of having shoes with a strong, durable material such as leather so you can wipe them down after dirty parties, which of course you cant with cloth shoes, you gotta wash them. Also they had to have a thick, hard sole to be able to take the beating Belgium gives especially exchange students shoes, and of course, they gotta have style. So after being in a few shops with Sonia this afternoon, I spotted some ones that fit the bill PERFECTLY. They had a real classy look to them too, so I bought my first pair of Belgium shoes. That being done, I packed up my guitar which after I played it at the dinner party, Nathalie insisted I brought it to Florence’s party. So I arrived at around 8, which is when all Florence’s family and stuff were there, so it was pretty low-key.
About an hour later, her mates from all over the place started turning up, and I met one girl who was travelling from Brussles. She told me of how her boyfriend was unwilling of letting her to go to this party, because he wouldn’t see her for a day or so. That made me laugh. So the party was cool, and half way through, helped along by many cheers, I got up and sang the NZ national anthem for Florence, with the guitar. Makes me appreciate having had a P.A so much ! but it went fine. It was awesome, all through the night there was hot soup and bread, and because I am their host son, I got my beers for free, others had to pay. Then after it all wrapped up I slept back at the Roberts house.

Today I woke up, had a shower, and had breakfast and lunch at the Roberts house, my third host family. Nathalie made a big ol’ batch of Spag Bolg for lunch. Along with the great French wine and plenty of Baugette bread, It was a totally ideal lunch. I felt so French…. After that I chilled there and checked out photos from last night with Julian (my host bro) and one of Florence’s friends. From here, my day was free, so I met up with Jack, Riley and Mckayla in Verviers, and we bummed around Verviers for the rest of the day. Then we all had dinner at Rileys, and crashed there the night.

Today, Sonia picked me up, and in spite of bad weather, there was nothing to do today but hibernate, and update the ol’ blog.
