It is still cold here and the wind is blowing ...bonus tonight - we are having snow flurries. Looking on the bright side, if it is this cold, snow is better than rain.

We learned some interesting things this morning about the B&B we had been staying in. The converted farmhouse that have stayed in was built in 1379, and the farm is still owned by the descendants of the aristocratic family. The Countess of Loppem owns several buildings in the village, and you can tell which ones by the color of the shutters. Red and White shutters, means they are her properry.

Our Garmin is still sulking I think from our time in the mud bog in Roubaix. She directed us onto a path that ended in the middle of a field again today. We both invoked rule #1 whew we saw the road ended, and immediately backed out of the field. Garmin then lost her satellite for awhile, and left us to navigate as best we could ... A coincidence? I think not.

Today we were in DePanne for the last day of the three day bike race. De Panne is on the coast, and like all coasts, it is windy. There were were 2 parts to the race today, a stage this morning and a time trial this afternoon. We stood outside for the dotage this morning, and I nearly froze to death. This afternoon, we watched the time trial from a cozy bar.

Tonight, and for the next couple of days we are staying in Ghent. Ghent, like Brugge, is a medevial city - but it is also a college town, so entirely different. We are staying just outside of the historic center. Tonight we went into the center of town to try a restaurant that specialized in authentic Flemish cuisine. We passed on the rabbit dish, and chose chicken and beef/pork dishes - both wre excellent. For our beer, I chose based on the glass it came iwas and we were very satisfied.

Dave has picked up a sniffle, so we are turning in early tonight. Tomorrow we are off to visit the Waterloo battlefield and do some touring of Ghent. Saturday we are taking a tour of Flanders Fields. Sunday is the Tour of Flanders!
