BRUGGEBRUGGEBRUGGE

Beautiful canals
Left Lisbon by about 6.00p.m. and it really is a great sail in/out here, lots to see around the hillsides as leaving the river and getting back out in the ocean. By the following morning weather not so good around 18 degrees and damp. Hope weather is OK when we get to Zeebrugge as we want to venture into Brugge, I believe it is a really gorgeous walking city.

Ronnie K, I remember when you told me that Brugge was the most beautiful city, you were not wrong, absolutely gorgeous! Docked in port 8.00a.m., absolute pea souper, armed with rain coats etc took the shuttle to Brakenburg town and got the train from there into Brugge, only took 10 minutes on the train as we had an express, in Brugge by 9.00a.m. nothing open til 10a.m. , but after that the sun came out and was the most glorious day. Bought a lovely painting at the Saturday market then to camera shop to buy new camera, coffee , chocolates ooohhh! Chocolates!!! Everywhere. Then to the board walk to board the boat around the canals in Brugge, so enjoyed the experience, it really is a spectacular city, the buildings

On the canals, stopped and chatted to this English lady relaxing painting!
are just so beautiful, so much history! After the canal cruise, took a long walk, on the way buying a million dollar Mandolin, the chopping variety, shite $200, then a big walk to the Half Man Brewery, the biggest brewery in Brugge, it was great, John had the best beer he has ever had, in fact 2 beers, 11%, he was anyone’s then! Met a lovely English couple who came and sat at our table on a four day cruise from Southampton, had a great chat then decided to try and head back to rail station. General strike here in Belgium today so worried about trains getting back to ship, so left brewery two and half hours ahead of time, but by the time we were half way back to the station John felt another beer stop coming on, met another English couple out the front and they joined us for another couple of beers!! You can just imagine how things were heading, they had to be back on their ship an hour earlier than us, so headed to station, sat on train for 35 minutes after departure, nothing happening, so then told to go to 4 platforms over as

Lots of beer temples!
that was the train to take us to Zeebrugge!!! Another 10 minutes and train took off, their ship had to be held up but we had left plenty of time, even for another beer stop after getting off at Zeebrugge and a 35 minute walk back to our ship! Wow what a day we had in Brugge, had a great time, can’t wait to come back!
