Im now at vienna airport hotel..the cheap one.Got here about 6pm having ben driven from Freistadt post race 2 by a ex pom living in austria who was racing..he cam first..I came 13th out of 18. Nivetrip down..140kph on mway,,and getting passed a lot.

Race day was earlish start so brekky at 0730..chatted with a guy who had young son with him. He spoke good english..good enough to joke about there being no sheep in austria. They were doing motorcyle sidecar cross country racing would u believe..2.4 m long 1.8m wide ex ww2 bike and sidecars...!!!!

Temp today was down..about 20..i had last start..they treat foreigners well here....race went quite good..500m of climb so tuff event with tree roots all over the place. Pleased with outcome..made few errpors but maps were not the best with some missed tracks..not that i can blame it all on that. Great forest to ride in..and u had parts where u crossed meadows.

leave for verona at 10am so out to airport for 8am..am all packed. Just need to rehearse ppt session whcih is pm on day 2.

Had dinner down in village 800m from here early asI ahdnt really eaten much..grabbed sausage and bun after race and had choc bar and litre of powerade in car. Sniszel..part way througha german xhephard came in with man..his wife who was smaller than dog followed about 3m behind..it was garden bar/eartery so must eb okay! I know it was german because thats what they speak in austria.

Freistadt teenagers entertained themselves roaring around streets on trail and quad bikes..and the odd suby.

Thunderstorm underway at mo..rain has come from the west after some very hot days..a blessing really.

More as conference unfolds..bring on pasta and montepulciano.
