Lea and Heinrich's
This is the main floor All righty! So, I've arrived in Austria - yet again - and, yet again, it is absolutely delightful. Before I get into everything, funny story for you:
The original plan that we had for when I got off the train was that Gerald's mother, Lea, would stand at the end of the platform with a sign saying "Karin und Gerald" so that I would know it was her. So, when I got off the train, I looked for said sign. At the end of the platform, I saw a woman standing with a sign that said "Jessica W." This woman looked a BIT young to be Gerald's mother, but the sign clearly had my name on it, so I wasn't questioning this. So, I greet the woman appropriately and she's looking at me in a strange way, but accepting my presence there and takes to walking toward the parking lot and is asking me where I'd been before Vienna, etc. Suddenly, we hear "STOP STOP!!" and I look and Gerald is running after me. This is strange... so I stop and I greet him and see that there is an older woman walking with him. We all stand awkwardly for
Main-Level Deck
Check out the awesomely Austrian house nextdoor :) a moment when Gerald finally gets smart enough to ask what the surname of the mystery "Jessica W." is -- wouldn't you know it, she's looking for Jessica Winterberg. So, this was a good moment of (in the words of Lea) Slapstick that couldn't have been reproduced if we'd tried.
So, here I am now at Lea and Heinrich's house... and their house leaves absolutely nothing to be desired. They have decks on every floor including the roof from which you can see this amazing view of the Vienna Woods. The garden has a swimming pool with one of those cool jet things that lets you swim laps in place. Haha, I have every intention of playing with this later. My "platz" is basically the whole of the basement, complete with TV and full bathroom/WC, not to mention my own entrance to the garden. Ah yes, and I was finally able to do laundry which is WAY more exciting than you can even imagine.
This morning, I woke up in my massive bed around 6:45am and literally said out loud, "Holy crap, it's real!" Then I realized that it was raining on my laundry which was hanging outside.
View from the Top
This is the view from the roof and those are the Vienna Woods Anyway, this is a very good setup because Lea and I are trying out our respective weak languages on each other. I've yet to gather up the guts to say more than one or two key phrases in German (especially in comparison to the full conversations that Lea is able to have in English), but it'll come eventually.
We received a call from Lilo - Karin's mother (Yes! I finally learned her name!!) - this morning to tell us that Karin had gone to the hospital. No baby yet, but Karin, as I'm learning more and more, is one to be very orderly and in control, and it seems that the birth of her child is no exception, here. Lilo has her money on this weekend for the birth -- I would bet against her just for fun, but would really rather not lose my money because I think she is right.
As für mich, my apartment should be ready within the next week, or so Im told. So, I will be staying with Lea and Heinrich until that happens. Here, I have full access to the city and to the mountains and everything, so I am
Das Pool
Garden, complete with pool in an ideal location. Whoops - the rest of my laundry is done (pushy dryers here, too!) so I will update you all more as more happens!!
While you are waiting for said update, I will post the remainder of my Paris and Geneva photos into an album for your enjoyment 😊
