It is a bit concerning when it is mid-January in Europe and the most common response to my comment ‘I am heading off for a week of skiing in Austria’ is ‘Is there any snow?’. A layer of stress is added when the planned ski holiday is with two Aussies who have traveled half way across the world for said ski trip. What is a girl to do? In my case: * obsessively check the snow reports for at least three weeks pre departure (including checking other resorts in Europe to see if an alternative destination would have been better - no, it was crap everywhere); *repeat like a mantra the phrase ‘I picked St Anton partly for the snow and partly because it is famous for its Après ski (some say the best in Europe). ... read more

Hello there everyone, It’s been a hectic few weeks over the Christmas period, apologies for the lack of communication both via the blog and email, phone calls etc. Hope all enjoyed the festive period. It was business as usual over Christmas here, it didn't feel all that festive. We are still in St. Anton as you can see, however the season isn’t progressing quite like we imagined. It seems we chose to come and work a season in the Alps the same year that global warming has started to kick in. There is a remarkable lack of the white stuff. If I look out of my window right now, I will see grungy brownish mountains. The temperature is warm enough to go outdoors wearing only a jumper. Rain falls instead of snow. Obviously, none of this ... read more

Hi Everyone Happy new year… This diary entry is well overdue. The fact that people are writing to me saying “Bella when are you going to update your blog” means to me that it is really time to write and that some people are actually reading this blog and getting some enjoyment out of it. Well December was an interesting month, as I reflect and read through my diary a lot happened in that month, some incredibly fantastic experiences and some damn bad and enlightening ones (well one anyways). I will start by saying that in December and up until the first week in January I caught over 15 trains, several busses, 5 planes, a couple of car rides, a few taxis & yes and ambulance which all in all took me to and through six ... read more

Over two years ago Suzy and I where looking for adventurous places to go snowboarding. We found a place in the Alps named St. Anton am Arlberg. This little town was a two hour train ride from Zurich in the Austrian Alps. We did the math and decided to go to Whistler/Blackcomb in British Columbia, Canada. At the time I made Suzy a promise that we would some day visit and board in St. Anton. I had even sent her a ecard from the site inviting her with me in the future to make the journey. Well, as luck has it, I was able to keep my promise to my incredible wife to be on 12/26/06. We decided on a 3 day Austrian rail pass (95 euros total for 2 people), thinking 2 days would be ... read more

Hello there everyone. Sorry for the lack of communication recently but we've been really busy. We got jobs fairly easily in a ski resort here in Austria which is called St. Anton. The company is a small upmarket one with a few chalets. I got a job as a nanny for some weeks, when a family who have booked one come to stay, and a chalet host (general skivvy) at other times. Simon is a resort rep and driver. There was not much need to stay in Innsbruck any longer and we felt at a loose end in the caravan. There was talk of my Dad coming to visit at some point so we started to research flights. Before you know it, we had found some cheap ones from Innsbruck to Gatwick and booked them for ... read more
