The winds of change are blowing across Cuba. In Old Havana workers are lifting 16th Century cobblestones to lay poly pipe for water and gas, power and optic fibre. Is that Hemmingway?

Hemmingway, reincarnated as a French dwarf, caught out in Casa Trova in Trinidad. He couldn't stay away....

Colorful Cuba
I so enjoyed your evocative writing that brought Cuba and her people to life. You've portrayed an amazing, resourceful people who've created beauty and joy in the face of overwhelming poverty. Many of the doctors and nurses working in extremely poor, rural areas in various South American countries are from Cuba--what a great export!

Cuba
Thank you so much, Taracloud, it was lovely to read your comment. And what a great point you make; if Cuba is exporting doctors, what a wonderful thing it is. Another reason to love the Cubans. Cheers, Alan

Don't want it to change
I'm happy for the people of Cuba for many reasons. The future is looking bright. I hate that things have to change because the country is amazing the way it is but change is inevitable. Havana and Trinidad were our favorite towns...so rich in history. Loved the music. We were there for New Year's and it was great fun. Your words have captured the essence of this lovely country and people.

Changing times in Cuba
Thanks for the comment, I really appreciate it. Yes, change is a double edged sword. Some young Cubans I met are desperate for an end to their poverty, by whatever means, which is a bit scary... like you, I love Cuba as it is and shudder at thought of chain fast food in Trinidad or Havana. Safe travels. Cheers, Alan
