My Bo Derek shot.
All thanks to Catherine the photographer. After my entry on what it is like to live and work on the ship I hope you all read this without thinking that what I told you was a complete lie. HAHAHA
So as I previously mentioned that this would be our last time to the St. Islands, I made to sure to try and make the most of what I could while I was there.
I haven t really taken a lot of time for me the past little while. And anyone who knows me knows that my me time when I am home is driving late at night and singing to really bad music at the top of my lungs. Well here on the ship there isn t really a place that I can do that, so I have had to be a little more creative.
In St. Kitts, Vanessa taught a Vessel Familiarization Train the Trainer. This means that I can now officially coach and train new employees on all matters concerning safety onboard. If you all recall something called a PCS Test. This test is conducted at the end of new employees first week onboard. This tests their knowledge about general safety and awareness
Lazy Days.
Cat nap in the St. Lucian Market. onboard. After the 4 hour class I decided that I would let all of my friends head to the beach on their own, and I would stay back. I decided to go to our very top deck onboard - called the Sports Deck. Here I walked around the track and admired the scenery of St. Kitts. I get such a great feeling when I look into St. Kitts. After than I went to the Gym for an hour, and took my time doing all of my favourite work outs. Then I went to the steam room to relax and then take a shower in the spa showers. These showers are amazing, with the rain faucets and multiple jets. It was just sooo good to relax and not rush. - As a Corporate Trainer our off hours are random and not in sequence. So this was a true joy to just relax and enjoy myself.
The next day brought us to St. Lucia. Vanessa had this day off and was meeting friends from the Destiny, another Carnival Cruise Lines ship that we were docked with at the port. I worked in the morning and then Catherine, Jeanette and I walked
around the Bay and went to the Destiny - it s kind of like seeing how someone else decorates their home. We walked through the Destiny and I am sure because we have become accustomed to our ship, thought to ourselves that we were so lucky to be on the Legend. The Legend has a clear theme onboard and is very colourful, alike most of its employees. However, the Destiny has a fantastic Lido deck, where all of the main buffets, pools and waterslide are. We walked into the main show lounge where we ran into some of the Destiny s main production cast. They asked us to drop a message to our current Dance Captain, Dee.
After that we walked to the main St. Lucian Market area. I absolutely loved this. Considering I think St. Lucia is a fantastic, wonderful and amazing place, this market only added to my thoughts. The market was what I would imagine a Caribbean market to be like. There were loads of people selling everything you could imagine. There were yelling matches between vendors to try and sell us their items at the best prices and still make enough money to feed their families. We
On the Destiny.
Jeanette, Catherine and I in the main show lounge on the Destiny. spend about 2 hours in the market all purchasing souvenirs and things that we know our friends and family will love. I managed to get some great items. I am sure my family and friends will love them. While walking around the market we saw some fantastic items and meet some great people. There were many children sleeping on or under or near their parents/guardians tables. There was this cute little girl that was sleeping in a cupboard and when we walked by she popped out and yelled boo. Catherine jumped and the little girl laughed so hard. I too laughed my buns off. Catherine and I were starving while in the market and hadn t yet eaten. So we walked to a more native part of the market and bought these Caribbean sweet bread items. They were great. Catherine s tasted like banana and mine was raisin and cherry.
As St. Maarten is one of my favourite places in the Caribbean I made sure to ask Vanessa for this port to be my day off, which she said yes too. Catherine was asking me sooo much to come on a tour with her. Being A/V Staff she films all of
Catherine hard at work.
One of the Catherine's main duties onboard is to film all of the guest tours (shore excursions). the major tours and then creates DVD s to sell to the guests. So I asked the Shore Excursion Manager if he could give me a crew pass to go on this tour with Catherine. Razvan, the Shore EX manager is a little reluctant to just give tours away for free to crew but granted my request. I was so grateful for this. Catherine filmed while I sunned myself on the top of the Catamaran. I mantra that day was Burn Baby Burn , I couldn t help but remember Richard when we were in Roatan. He would say throughout the day, Red today, Brown tomorrow . Well Burn I did. We sailed to this little island, I believe they called it Turtle Bay or Beach, I can t really remember. But this place was stunning, everything I remember St. Maarten to be. When we returned to shore I said good bye to Catherine and purchased a ticket on the Water Taxi to take me to the main beach by the port called Phillipsburg Beach. Being Good Friday, everything was closed so it was actually very calm downtown. Sure there were lots of guests and staff everywhere but I knew I needed to just sit
Jazz Night in the Crew Lounge.
Eddy and Andy, part of the Jazz Trio playing for Jazz Night in the Crew Lounge. and be. I headed back to the ship when I ran into Jeanette and one of her teens from her Club 02 program. We then headed back to the beach. Jeanette and I talked and had lunch on the beach then walked to the 12 metre Regatta Shop. It was actually open, I bought some shirts Catherine asked me to get for her and then bought my father something there too. The Regatta was held in St. Maarten this year so this puts something extra in the memories of these purchases.
I was very happy to have spent my last time in St. Maarten with two people I have come to care about. Also, I am very excited to report that I ended my time in St. Maarten the same way I began, with a Catamaran tour to some of the islands superb beaches.
Again, I took it easy, and being my day off, I went back to the spa and went into the Jacuzzi, and relaxed. That night in the Crew Lounge was the Jazz Night, and this Jazz Night our Jazz Trio were playing. It was fantastic, these guys really know what they are doing and
In Brian's room.
Brain - Production Singer, Catherine - A/V, Cameron - Dancer and me. the music was great. We spent the night in awe, watching and listening.
The next day, my neck and back felt as though they were on fire. My Burn Baby Burn Mantra was put into place more than I would ever know.
I also found out this cruise that I will be going to a place called the Star Centre. This place teaches and certifies members of the Cruising/Navel realm, to train and certify others about all International Maritime policies and procedures. I am very excited about this. I have heard about this place for my entire time with Carnival so am happy that I have been selected to go to this place.
So in anticipation of this new step towards further development, I will report shortly on that experience.
The next cruise we are on will be the 4 day cruise to Grand Turk and Nassau Bahamas. Then we will have our 2 day relocation to a new homeport of Tampa and then I will head to the Star Centre. In other words there is a lot of exciting things that will be happening in the next while and I want to make sure to
take full advantage of it all.
Because .. I will be home in less than 30 days. This experience has gone by so fast. I have enjoyed all of it, good and bad, and extraordinary.
Take Care,
Brooks
