St.Maarten Vendors
A view through the trees strolling around the St.Maarten vendors. Rocky seas, February Crew Activities and preparing for a month of new adventures.
Like previously mentioned we are heading to the Southern Caribbean. The Ocean is very rocky tonight and I am feeling very queasy. I am sure that some sea sickness pills and a few Malibu and Pineapples will take care of that. It is very easy to see how people onboard cruise ships develop alcohol problems. When one of the VERY few places that you can go and relax is the Crew Lounge or Crew Bar, and drinks are the price of Phil’s in Waterloo (All of you from back home know what I am talking about - and for the rest of you 1 drink =$ 1.50) on top of that there really isn’t anywhere to spend your money onboard either. My alcohol awareness program facilitated last few weeks/month went over REALLY well. NOT!!!
We are well on our way now to the Hallmark Holiday month of February and I am lucky enough to be one of the people in charge of the Crew Activities. Rather, I think I have been unwillingly elected to create, manage, organize and put together all of the February Crew Activities.
And anyone that knows me knows that I don’t do anything half assed. So it is very hard for me to somewhat half ass this. I have so much on my plate at the moment however Activities are part of my duties. So I have managed to schedule some Crew, Blackjack, Karaoke, Jazz Nights, Wet and Wild Parties, Pajama Parties and a Stop Light Party. The Stop Light party is an idea that I got from Rob. It is where people show up at the party and are given a glow stick, Mardi Gras beads etc… Red = Not looking or in a relationship, Yellow = Could be looking if you have what I want, Green = Ready willing and able. WHAT COLOUR SHOULD I WEAR? Perhaps Purple = Get the hell away from me.
Again, I am happy to report that things are generally going well however. Jeanette and I are becoming good friends. Also, I have been spending a lot of time talking to two Brits. Jen, she is the Assistant Cruise Director, HILARIOUS and makes me feel very comfortable. We have had some great conversations and she has true British whit. Richard the other Brit, is
a Dancer. He is 20, hilarious, over the top, and generally a blast. So when you want to go to a crew party kick back and just laugh your ass off he is your man. I think he would love to hang out with all of the friends back home. That and Mary wouldn’t be able to keep his hands off him.
Common trends at the moment are the historical tours that I was talking about before. In St. Maarten, Jeanette and I managed to get another tour. We toured the entire island of St. Maarten, learned its history drank a lot of rum punch, and talked to some great passengers. I was very surprised to see the entire island. It is inhabited by two separate governments. French and Dutch with two phone companies, post offices, languages, taxes etc… Along the tour we managed to see a lot of the other surrounding islands from a distance. Such as St. Barts, Saba, Anguilla to name a few. We went to Philipsburg, Orient Bay, Marigot and a few of the harbors. After walking around the streets to find the market to do some thrift shopping we managed back to the Catamaran
part of the trip. We drank some run punch the DJ was hot to trot for Jeanette and the cruise was average age 900. So it was relaxing and nice to know that we could be in the company of 900 year olds and still feel completely comfortable.
After the tour we went to the main beach in Philipsburg. Playing in the water with Dan, an Australian Social Host, Catherine, a Quebecois AV Staff Member, Eddy and Andy from the Jazz Trio both American and Kevin from Alberta and the Internet Café Manager. There was a large water trampoline in the water that we took full advantage of. There were two small St. Maarten children that were playing with us as well. The little girl could not swim well but wanted to join her brother - possible ages 6-8, on the water trampoline but with the lack of swimming skills Jeanette helped her and played. It was actually very great to just relax not worry about anything and play with children. It reminded me of going to Grandma’s pool at the Police Associate with Lauren, Brooklynn, Luke, Chyann and the rest of my family and just enjoying life, absorbing
the rays.
Tomorrow we will be in St. Lucia followed by St. Kitts. I’m very excited.
