Things Started off nicely when I scored a pass into the presidents club through the airline I was flying to Nicaragua with. Thanks Dmitry's girlfriend! Free wine and Internet for my three hour lay over.
I arrive and Marc and Marielle the owners of Buena Vista Surf Club are there waiting for me. They recognize me right away, and we hop into the older Toyota Land cruiser and they tell me that we are actually going to stay the night in Managua because they have some things they would like to get while in the city.
The next day we run around all over Managua, we went to Costco, the grocery store, a couple hardware stores, everywhere we went it took forever. We get into the San Juan Del Sur area which is close to there place after dark. Since it had rained more then they thought the river was flooded and no one was crossing, except by foot. There was a little boy about 10 swimming in the muddy river. There were other cars pulling up, but not crossing. The people that crossed the river by foot the water was up to their thighs, and Marc told me
a story about once when they took some people out surfing and the river was too high and the truck stalled out and got stuck. He had this determination on his face, but was hesitant. He was going to do it. We crossed with success, but much higher and it would have been too much. I started to think that we were going to have to turn around and drive back to the next town Rivas and stay another night not at the place.
It rained more then not my first four days. The rain made for bad picture taking opportunity so that it one reason I have waited to post a blog. So I flew in on Tuesday night, and did not really see the place tell Thursday morning. We had no guest until Saturday night really late. They taught me how to play cribbage Friday night, and on Saturday night I won the two rounds that we played. During the day on Saturday we went to San Jorge and had lunch on Lake Nicaragua looking out onto the Island Otetepe. I saw a Nicaraguan Richard Simmons, he had on striped shorts a wife better and crazy ass
hair.
The guest were newbie surfer too and they had a lesson scheduled with Larry our all around guy. We call him anytime we have surf lessons, yoga, and message. So far just the surfing. So on Sunday Larry took the paying guests and Marc took me out. I took a beating. I had to keep reminding myself that I took a beating when I was learning how to snowboard too. I went out the next day too, the beating was a bit better, but I was not doing much better. So I took two days off to rest, and get signed up with the Spanish teacher.
So Marc and Marielle told me that I could take lessons at the beach and they showed me the tent that Jorvin my Spanish teacher works at. The Tents is a taco stand on the beach with plastic chairs and table and a BBQ. I was sceptical, but they said he spoke great English so I walked down there on Tuesday and right way had a lesson. He is very smart, and lightly funny. His approach is very methodical. He gave me a ton of stuff to learn and told me
next time he sees me that I have to have it all memorized. He is going to be hard on me and I need that. Nice thing too is that he is on the way to the beach I surf at so I can take lessons before or after surfing.
For work I cook either breakfast or dinner and Marielle and I trade. I get one day off and in Dec I will most likely work 7 days a week. Right now we have two couples staying with us and they have been eating dinner with us every night since they have been enjoying the food so much. One is a vegetarian so it's been a pain to cook 6 dinners with meet and one with out. Like last night I made steak for everyone else and made her a separate bean burger from scratch. It's really not that bad. Good practice for when we get really busy. I guess during Christmas we will have about 18 of us. That is a lot of food for one person to cook.
Well I have read more books in one week of being here then I have in the last
two years. That's just one whole book. I'm onto my second and going strong.
So my days are nice and simple. I cook, read, study Spanish, walk the dogs on the beach, surf, eat, and talk with guest
