We FINALLY made it to Nicaragua

After passing a full day in Tegusigalpa and not finding much to do, we decided that we should make our way to Nicaragua, therefore we would have additional time to do cool stuff... when we find it.

From Tegusigalpa we took a bus to Cholutecha and then continued on the same bus to San Marcos de Colon. This bus ride, which was supposed to be easy, turned out to be the longest, craziest thing ever. So to start, in Tegus every bus company has a different terminal (this makes life challenging when you don´t know schedules or prices), but we went to the company listed in the lonely planet. We got there early with hopes of having an early start to the day and getting to Nicaragua with some time to spare. This idea quickly turned into a joke when the first bus did not leave until 3 hours later... so we had breakfast. Then, we were on the bus for less then 40 minutes when it stoped for a 20 minute break... we have no idea why, the only thing we can think of is that it is lunch time. Then after being on the bus for and additional 15 minutes... we heard a thump and lots of air quickly run out of a tire. Ok... well this should be a quick fix, we though... It turned out that we were on the side of the road for more then 3 or 4 hours. They could not get one of the bults of the tire off to replace it... so we sat there and drank water out of a plastic bag (that is how they sell it) until they were able to cut off the knob. It was one of those situations with like 10 men watching and one man working... you just had to laugh... especially when the name of our bus company was Mi Esperanza

Long story short... a 3 hour trip turned into like 8 hours. By the time we got to Cholutecha, where we though we had to change buses it was 5pm, therefore we were never going to make it to the boarder before it closed. When we realized that the bus we were on continued to San Marco, which is the town closest to the border, we decided to stay aboard. In San Marcos, we ate a feast and stayed in a wonderful hotel (with Hot Water) for very little money. It was a wonderful end to a long day of traveling.

Now we have made it across the boarder and are in search for adventure and something new... so we are going to the Esteli Nature Reserve, where we will stay with a host family and we rented horses for day. Who knows what this will bring us... but we will have to wait and see.

For now there are kids begging me for money so I am going to go.

I hope life is going well..

Les queremos,

Hannah and Pato
