Edit Blog Post
For the blog this week we racked our brains and were suddenly inspired,
To try a new approach we hoped the clan back home admired,
So we have wrapped up our Honduran experience, into a cheesy song,
Get all your friends and family, log on and sing along,
Honduras is the same size as the state of Tennessee,
And if you live here, being friendly is the only way to be,
The currency bears the name of a national hero called Lempira,
But he´s not as big in Latin America, as Bolivar, "Che" or Shakira,
It took all day and 4 different buses to get across the border,
We paid our tax but got no stamp and feared our passports were not in order,
But it turned out fine, cause later, when we looked into it more,
Nicaragua´s stamp also covers Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador,
We got to Tegucigalpa in the darkest hour of night,
Where a machete wielding man at our hotel gave us a fright,
But this was just a common picture in restaurants, shops and banks,
The security guards had shotguns that could take out many tanks,
The next morning we searched
the town for a post office and immigration,
But neither could be found, they were no longer in their listed location,
So we took a hike to the monument with sweeping views of the city,
We sweated it out and got to the top but the views were pretty shitty,
With no luck trying to find the post to mail off all our stuff,
We moved on knowing a day in the capital is more than enough,
Travelling another full day on the bus we arrived in Santa Rosa,
But we got there so late we only had time to enjoy a meal and gaseosa,
Just staying a night and not seeing much we were back on the bus the next day,
To try and get to the gorgeous town of Copan, some distance away,
It was here we planned a visit to the famous Mayan archaeological site,
With an early start the next day we made sure that we got an early night,
It´s going to be hard to fit our day at the ruins into this rhyme,
So we´ll keep it brief but say we had a really awesome time,
It´s believed this amazing city
was built in 1200 BC,
And was home to 20,000 before they died or had to flee,
Over-population was the main factor for it´s demise,
No longer agriculturally self sufficient, for the cities sudden rise,
To cope, area´s were deforested, causing massive erosion and flood,
And abandoned, the jungle reclaimed the land, covering it with trees and mud,
Today, Copan has been rediscovered and the buildings are being restored,
Now the forest has been cleared for all the structures to be adored,
Underneath the jungle, temples, staircases and a ball court remained,
So they opened it up to charge gringo´s a fortune, to keep the site maintained,
It was an awesome experience, seeing the Mayan world, and one we´ll never forget,
But we pushed on to Guatemala cause our trip isn´t over yet,
So we really hope you enjoyed our song, please tell us what you think,
Damn that took forever to write... I think we need a drink!
