Our first glimpse of Guatemala...
After a straight month of preparation, we finally arrived in Guatemala City!

Finding our way out of the airport through throngs of penned-in Guatemalans awaiting loved ones, past taxi drivers and armed guards, we quickly realized just how minimal our Spanish is.

Brittany has survival Spanish and Honore can barely count to ten.

The antique American school bus we took through Guate was a rattle-y, metal-seated contraption filled to capacity.

The view out the window was nothing like watching the travel channel.

With one arm hanging out the window, we could taste the fumes of the city as each jarring bump and swerve caused our teeth to chomp.

The colors were bright but dingy and there were armed police outside Taco Bell.

On one wall we saw written > 'Viva la clase de trabajadora!'

When we jumped off the bus, not knowing where we were, we were helped by a very friendly little Guatemalan man who kindly led us to the bus to Coban.

After two quick dirty beers, we were on our way to our
