Laying the foundations Half way through the week and half way through the build on the second house! In the same area as last week San Antonio, we have luxury this week a flushing toilet with a door and electricity. Last week a cesspit with cockroaches coming out of the 'seat' and a see through flapping bit of plastic sheeting!! Needless to say I wasn't in a hurry to use the toilet last week! This week utter bliss and not disimiliar to the homestay toilet!
Michele and I are on different builds this week- but have a nice group of volunteers although they are taking great delight that other than 1 Guatamalian man I am the oldest!!
This week does not feel quite so hard, managed to stay up later then 7.30 on Monday, so thats an improvement! The bruises on my arms and legs from carrying cemet and mixing concrete are impressive though!
Just been told today that what I thought was thunder is in fact the volcano erupting, which is not that far away from where we are building! Today heard the 'thunder' and then watched a massive plume of smoke erupt from the top- slightly surreal!

Day 2 half the walls are completed and the first level of concrete added much done with the black beans! Had beans and black bean sauce every day this week so far with spinach patties and today was black beans and fried potatoes! What I would do for pie and veg!!
Friday is the last day on the build and we are staying at the homestay until Sunday, looking at tours we can do around this area ready for our flight onto Costa Rica on Wednesday (23rd Feb). Hoping that my mobile phone works in Costa Rica as currently does not work in Guatamala.
