Hola mis amigos! And if you expect this to all be in spansih, well im flattered that you think i am that smart... for those of my colleagues reading this, or friends form university,k well you know that aint the case!
Firstly thanks to evryone for the great comments, they always make us laugh!
Life here has been pretty good the last couple weeks... we are now in our second week of language school... Amanda is progressing very well in her studies and i have a new teacher... no hes not a wrestling fan, but is a good guy... i{m even doing homewrok now... scary stuff... I know I never gave any... geez...
Some more random thoughts about guatemala... the greatest invention they could ever incorporate into their life here? Yes its the vaunted E- test that we canadians despair so much... every morning you step out of the house and take a nice deep breath of 100 percent pollution! To put it in perspective, imagine being so thirsty yu just cant stand it and taking a nice big swig of water... only to discover its from the rideau...
The worst part is, the house where we
are staying is a major drop off
point for the famed chicken buses of guatemala ... imagine brightly painted buses that have been rejected from both america and mexico because they are too dirty and too much of a pollutant... packed to ther brim with people, with a stream of exhaust pouring out the back that makes it look like a 19th century locamotive.. we have a beautiful view of a volcano on our horizon that you cant even see today... the neat thing is though, for taxis, the guatemalans use these lil things called tuk tuks... picture a motorized tricycle big enuff for three people, two in the back... very starnge looking but funny things...
we have taken to walking and that is always entertaining... amanda is starting to wonder if i have taped a big bulls eye to her back, as she is apparently publuic enemy number one for all birds here in guatemala... they display their anger with her by gently dropping whatever is in their bowels on her on at least three occassions thus far...
This past weekend we had a wonderful experience ruffing it (so to speak) at soemthing called the earth lodge
Cliff Swing
I didn t think I would ever be able to get off this thing, it just kept swinging out over the cliff. Lots of fun!! about 25 minutes north of antigua... we camped in these tiny cabins, went for long hikes, lounged in hammocks... read , had a few cervecas, enjoyed an amazing view looking down the mountains into antigua and the area... in the background were two giant volcanoes... i could describe them, but just check out the pics... for once they kinda do it justice...it was great catching up with people from all over the place.. the owners are a young couple, one from meaford ontario ad one from san fransisco... we had a big bbq (God i miss canada sometimes!) and sat talking about anything and everything with people from israel, new zealand, norway, wales, england, america, Holland etc... really interesting ...
And of course i had to remind them all that canada would have won gold had canada thawd out gretzky, lemieux and of course gilmour!
Our plans have changed a bit and we are now heading to peru tjis monday... we are going to spend our last weekend here hiking a vokcano and enjoying the unique easter and lenten celebrations they have here... one more quick story... today for pancake tuesday, all the kids take eggs, decorate them (
Avacodo Trees
Avacodos = Guacamole = mmmmmmm-! I know this sounds like what we do...)
... but then they take the top off them and fill them with confetti... here is where it gets fun... they then go up to their friends and smash the eggs over their friends heads! Even worse, the lil buggers sometimes skip the confetti and instead fill them with flour or pepper! And all we do is make friggin pancakes!
Just a quick word to congragulate the two basketball etams back at st. john... awesome season boys... and with lindros well rested and sundin on a tear, look out for those leafs!
take care everyone and well check in next week!
P.S. Amanda here- Just wanted to let everyone know that Jeff/Spike Wolf has grown a beard!! Yes that is right a burley, reddish, rustic beard. But the best part about the beard is that it is being shaved off in exactly 5 days!!
I am learning a lot about the being that is Jeff Peters....I never thought a teacher was allowed to make so many typo´s and get away with it! I suppose that seing as how he has read close to 7 books in 3 weeks and
Our Cabin at Earth Lodge
In the middle of the forest! I have not even finished one he is allowed to make the odd spelling mistake. And last week Mr. Celebrity himself got pulled out of Spanish class to have a photo taken for the school´s website. There was one glitch, they tried to make the photo look really good so they went up to the roof and took it. After they got it developed this week they realized there was a bar in the background! I suppose if they were advertizing cervezas it would have been okay but education...not so much. Luckily for them Jeff was still around and they did another model shoot today. Sometime in the near future they will post it on the web...the school is Alameda Spanish Academy in Antigua Guatemala, chek it out.
We are getting along great, I am excited to get on with the rest of our trip. That´s all for now.
