Wednesday morning Trish visited us during breakfast and lunch at the Tres Ceibas campo. She's an awesome woman who works for the Mariposa Foundation in the Dominican Republic and she shared with us what she does for work here in Cabarete and a few stories of her own and others' experiences living here. When we first arrived in Tres Ceibas I noticed a lot of empty chip bags on the side of the muddy roads and a lot of other miscellaneous trash just lying on the ground. My assumption of this was that, "these people really don't mind littering." However, Trish later explained to us that throwing a candy wrapper here and there was like throwing a banana peel on the ground. It just doesn't matter. Then we discussed the fact that we as Americans liter too, but the Dominicans are the best recyclers ever. Sure, they'll toss some plastic on the ground, but they'll also re-use a lot of other material because they're trying to make a living with what they have. For example, they'll use half of an empty Coke bottle as a silverware container. I envy this ability and will probably re-use materials myself now. The locals of

Tres Ceibas amazed me in every possible way, I just hadn't looked at the bigger picture before.
