Hi all Time to update you on the thrills and spills from Cuba. I think Amy last wrote on our last day in Trinidad. Reluctant to leave Trinidad but feeling we should move on we continued east to a city called Camaguey which is the biggest city in central Cuba. Camaguey was again very different to Havana and Trinidad. The most obvious difference was the lack of other tourists and to be honest, after a quick whizz round the city´s few sights, there wasn´t a huge amount there to do except to soak in the Cuban way of life such as waiting for an hour to get into a bank etc. I reckon the Cuban´s enthusiasm for queueing might even rival ours and they have an ingenous system "el ultimo" where you can just ask who ... read more

At the moment I´m sitting perched on the end of the seat as it´s a bit painful to sit down, but I´ll come onto that... We are still in Trinidad. It´s such a gorgeous village that we have ended up staying here for three nights so far. Our first proper day was at the beach. The beach is gorgeous...white sand, clear blue sea, palm trees, mojitos in the shade. In the usual tradition we managed to get burnt whilst still plastering on the sun cream and sitting in the shade for most of the time. Lucikly we had planned ahead and brought some after sun so we´re pretty much alright now. After the beach, we headed to the Casa musica. This is right at the top of the hill in the village and is an outdoor ... read more

So for my last week I had booked a trip to Cuba and more specifically its capital, Havana. I had no idea what to expect. What i found was a city which at first glance appeared fairly standard south american fair but as soon as you get in and amongst and get a feel for the place you find a somewhere very different from any other place in the world, certainly any place ive ever been. Firstly theres the cars. Classic vinatge american cars from the 50s (i dunno what decade, but you know theyre old) in mint condition, all shiny and everything are everywhere. Even for someone like me who has virtually know interest in cars whatsoever there were impressive (esspecially the shiny ones). My dad said Cuban mechanics were sposed to be the best ... read more

We stopped in Varadaro for a couple of days before catching the Hershey train from Matanzas to Guanabo, the most easterly beach town of the Playas del Este. Unfortunately, our camera quit working just at the wrong time, when we were experiencing some of our most interesting days. The train was very old and slow and felt like it was about to derail a few times. We found a great old weatherbeaten casa particular two meters from the water at Guanabo, where we enjoyed days in the sun. We got talked into an illegal taxi ride in a gutted 1956 Ford back to Havana, where we met up with Les and Yaremis again. They generously lent us their camera so we have some pictures of our last four days in Cuba. We won't have photos of ... read more

Hello So here we are, sorry for the delay in our first entry proper and there will be photos to follow its just that we haven´t got the lead with us at the moment. Anyway, where to start... So our first port of call was Mexico City where we arrived quite late with no guide book or anything. The first thing we noticed was the difference in the force of gravity in Central America, our bags seemed to have doubled in weight from when we packed them in UK. Ah well, hopefully we´ll get stronger We hadn´t really thought about Mexico City at all so it was a bit random to suddenly find ourselves wandering the streets relatively late in the evening looking for our first hostel. Our first day we basically did the city sights ... read more

We hitched a ride in Les and Yaremis' tiny little Hyundai to Trinidad, where we enjoyed son and salsa music every night. There are lots of foreigners here, mostly European, so it felt like a backpacker sort of a place, and we had a lot of fun with new friends.... read more

... read more

Vi likte egentlig Havana ganske saa ... read more
