Around the corner from our hotel was the magnificent Parque Jose Marti, the town square. Our guide, a local historian, Mariloli, told us the story of Cienfuegosas revealed by the buildings around the square. The city was founded in 1819 by rich French inhabitants of Haiti, who were escaping the revolution there. Having money, they built a planned city that adopted the wide straight streets of Napo... Cienfuegos
So when we were in the church, didn't our guide meet someone who she knew years back and they had an emotional reunion? I have a shot of the street in front of the hotel with trolley tracks. I have no recollection that Daniel told us anything about that. Can't wait for the next installment. LP

Cienfuegos
Now that you remind me, I do remember the emotional reunion. No recollection of trolley tracks. Group tours are so good because people see and remember different things.

Catching up :-)
There is some benefit to being behind - I get to see the other comments. It's a good point: We all see and remember different things. Programs don't usually include a formal collective debrief every day, although it can happen informally, as here. The church decorations for Christmas reminded me of Guatemala, and your comment about Daniel not "getting" your touque reminded me of a teacher I met from Yuma AZ. The grade school kids there still read stories about Dick and Jane splashing in the rain puddles on their way to school - but these kids had never seen rain. My Guatemalan hosts understood touques, but they lived at altitude and it was really cold at night in the winter.

Catching up
Nothing like a good catch-up. Very happy you like the bird photos, because you take excellent bird photos. And, not sure how our culture came to see pirates as funny and suited to costumes, because they were terrifying and still are in parts of the world.
