Some times you just have to treat yourselves. We knew that
Casa Coloreswas a bit beyond our normal budget but it looked like a little piece of heaven and we thought we deserved it. How right we were! Despite being a very steep 20 minute walk into the town of Montezuma (and a short but $8 taxi ride back) we felt it was worth the extra expense. We were soon settling in to the Orange House where we were greeted by two very cheeky white-throated magpie jays who just wanted the cores of the apples we were eating!
We did a lot of relaxing there, both by the pool and on the terrace. Russ really enjoyed being in a hammock again, and watching Brighton win on his laptop swaying away without a care in the world was brilliant! The sound of howler monkeys accompanied our visits to the pool but we never actually saw one. There were some cheeky capuchin monkeys as we walked down the road though, and the way they were hanging around the telephone wires made us wonder if they were specially trained engineers!!
The walk down to the town and the beach was a very steep
descent at times, and there is no way you would do that in the dark. We planned our days accordingly and brought food back with us from the expensive convenience stores if we hadn't eaten out. The first night we didn't think much of the place but exploring during the day we came to really like Montezuma. We walked out to a very exclusive resort which, frankly, didn't look anything special at all. We also walked out to the local waterfall, but just as far as the lower cascade because the paths are too treacherous and it wasn't worth the risk. On the way to the falls we saw pelicans diving into the sea to catch fish. It was a mesmerising sight. That same beach was where our boat over the gulf was going to depart from and when we saw it being unloaded of passengers and bags, we were a bit worried what it would be like getting on board. We needn't have worried. It was so much calmer in the mornings.
A special mention has to go to
Soda El Artesano. We ate there three times! Restaurants and bars in Montezuma are far from cheap but this place really
bucked the trend. The food was always delicious and the service, though slow at times, was always friendly.
It may sound like we didn't do much. I guess we didn't, but we certainly moved on feeling refreshed.

Making the impossible possible.
I so much enjoyed this blog, and following your photos around the world. My travels are all but done and I say that not in a sad way, but you bring life to my front room. Thank you.
