The Red Pool
Red becuase the water cut thru the volcanic ash down to the Iron core. The creek feeds to a river that became a canyon, that got real big in '91 from an earthquake 9/01/06 Day 1 in Costa Rica Hacienda Guachipelin (the Ranch)
05:50 I am wide awke, sun is up, so time for a hike...the shortest destination, the Red Pool, @ 30 mins thru the forrest on a muddy trail.
***
Got there to find a great swimming hole but decided being naked at 06:30 was a bit much....so I got my legs wet and left. Following the 'Exit' sign, yes someone has painted a sign blue with an arrow. A grassy trail along a barbedwire fence for less than 50 yards out onto the road.If I'd known, I'd of taken the exit to get in. much easier on the eyes.
Got back at 7:00, just in time for breakfast, another buffet! Eggs, pancakes, fried bannanas, fruit, and juices...I got eggs and pancakes with apple juice.
All fueled up and ready to go......maybe later. Decided that a rest was in order, so out like a light I went.
About 10:00am, I got up, packed my butt pak, my new walking stick/camera monopod, and went to get 2 bottled H2Os.($1.00)
Down the road I go, the other direction, west, saw another 'blue' sign, said: "La Victoria"...deep into the jungle I went...on a
Town of Liberia under fog
Shot from Lookout at Ranch, to the West (Pacific) fog/clouds over the town. road, that turned into an ATV trail, then into a horse trail.....security in that new stick, ready for anything or anybody.
Sharp eye on the trail, so much for site seeing, if it wasn't on the ground in front of me, I didn't see it! Sum total of nature in the wild: a big blue swallowtailed butterfly.

Yup, nada, zip, zilch, bummer! not even a lizard...So 10ish kilometers later, fried, and aching, just as the rain hit, I am back at the hotel.(just in time for lunch!)
Soaked with sweat, I fixed a bottle with EnergenC citrus, and it revived me within 30 mins....took a shower and changed into fresh clothes.
Last time I do that! No way am I gonna walk into a forrest by my lonesum! Sister said sumthin like "Dead man Walkin'"....I thought more positive and got thru it. I must admit that when I got back to the point I went in, I was proud that I made it out. Not to mention that my sense of direction is IMPECCABLE!
Since I timed that hike just perfectly, (Noon) back at the Ranch, Lunch! Bumped into Erik, said they'd give me a ride if I could
Shot from Rancho porch
just what I saw from my room reserve a car at Thrifty.
So, after 30 mins on the phone to 4 different rental car places in Liberia, my hostess at the front desk, had come up with a Suzuki Jimmy, 2dr 4x4 for the low price of......$252 a week..no more Rav4s...Erik got a Thrifty Toyota Rav4 for $179 per week, including the required insurance. HMMMM?
So, no car today or this week.....maybe a ride or bus up to Rinco Lodge for 2 more days of wilderness, then ?.
And now, after fighting the router here, WiFi and LAN hub, BOTH are not connecting.....dead at central DSL drop up the road....RASCA.com, due to a POWER OUTAGE earlier.....no WAN no GMAIL! get to that a.s.a.p.
Battery holding up quite nicely I must say.
Don't ask for the Pollo La Hacienda,,,their idea of a hamburger with chicken patties, sucko patties. That was lunch. Glad I went though, found out about a large, 150 people PARTY tonight! Ericke, the waiter saw my CROCs and wants some, his size 13 foot, he says, would be "more comfortable in this environment". I told him to go to .com and for $30 + shipping, and that they are sold out on the
My Green friend
Caught him in the bush in front of my room. coast...(not really knowing that).
So, what if they aren't sold down here? HMMMM? Can we say distributor????
New topic:
Yard geese, GONZOs! Yup about a dozen or so forage the grounds here keeping the pretty little yellow flowers under control....Uh Oh....I reached my hand out at the steps, they want food....now they are on the porch with us humans....now it looks like Boulder, where the geese have been....GONZO POOP!
Just another day at the Rancho.
Dinner not so crowded as suspected earlier, just those kids.
Friday night at the club had a band, Zylafone and Pan flute, local musica for sure. Seems the crowd stayed up til @3AM enjoying themselves, though the bar closed at 10:00pm.....NO cows only those damn geese keeping the critters out of the yard. Then there was the horrid sound a DONKEY can make at 4am ish, it was like a sick bear roar....sleep at the Ranch is brief but that's what the 'siesta' is all about! Oh, did I mention that less than 50 feet from the room, is the HORSE corals, where they wash down the horses after the rides, and the horses 'fertilize' the concrete coral, the aroma of the Ranch
My 1st BLUE mushroom
On the trail, YES! they do exist! will definitely remind you that it is a working ranch and farm.....pigs too, but down in the valley @ 200 meters away, you can only hear them, thank goodness!
A new day coming....
