Another hard day in the life of a surfer - Mike relaxing in Malpais/Santa Teresa at the Backpackers which was a very schmick backpackers!
So since the last blog our adventures have taken us to San Juan Del Sur via a bus, taxi, ferry, bus, overnight stay, bus, border crossing and taxi to Nicaragua where as I think I have previously mentioned we intended to brush up quick smart on our spanish - so after a week and four lessons with our teacher we left Nicaragua a little better off or so we though only to be told dont worry the spanish is different in South America anyway!! Shite!!! Hehe it was an experience to say the least - out tutor was lovely and we had some good laughs!

However after a week we were definately scratching to leave as for Mike the surf was rather ave and as you will read in on one of the photos options we were limited to where we could go given the surrounding areas! I wont tell you the tales we heard it will cause the mothers to have hernias!!!

So after another 2 buses, a border crossing and a bus (the easiest move yet) we ended up in Playa Tamarindo - although I should say at this point that no journey in Costa Rica is

Our first night in SAn Juan Del Sur in Nicaragua - we have found a new love - hammocks and rocking chairs!! Dont knock it until you´ve tried it!!!
easy - the roads here are atrocious and that is being generous!!! Over half of them are unpaved and are corrugated like you wouldnt believe - we thought (very stupidly) that the way to Tamarindo would be better given the volume of tourist - sadly we were far from right with this assumption - it took us 3.5 hours to do what could be done in 1.5 if the roads were up to scratch - our worst section so far has been 10kms taking 1 hour!!!!! No shit the infrastructure here is the worst we have seen we are hoping for better when we head to South America!!! Oh and the dust - I wont even go into it!!! Anyhow once we get to the locations they have been great - Tamarindo was awesome - we werent sure for a long while whether we would go as everyone we spoke to ragged it to be honest we are glad we didnt listen cause we arrived and were stoked - yeah its touristy but the beaches are great the accomodation was great and the rest of it was great. Mike got a couple of good surfs in but yesterday was by

Sunset at the bay in San Juan - the surf spots are north and south from here but you dont go south cause theirs dudes with machetes running around and americans - two things we just werent into!!!
far the best of the lot - Playa Grande was 6 ft - double overhead and was a seriously full on wave - guys getting some awesome waves and some nice barrels - etiquette in the water is non existent but everyone got some good waves none the less. However Mike is now boardless - both babies sold here in Costa Rica - not that hes upset hes already dreaming about his next board! I got a few surfs in although I got drilled and slammed one one and well I think Layne is going to be okay for a just a little while longer yet!!

So we are back in San Jose (after a 7 hour bus ride - which was suppose to be 5!) tomorrow we fly out to Lima - we are heading north to Trujillo - their is a swell about to hit up north and so we will have 5 days up there before we head back to meet up with Gary. So after the first month on the road we say good bye to Costa Rica - an adventure and a culture shock - hopefully one that has better prepared us for the

Our last night with travelling companions Janelle and Nick - some dirty old Aussies we hooked up with and travelled from Malpais to San Juan!! On the menu was beers, pizza and cards!
rest of what is yet to come!!!

Missing you all and hoping all is going well for everyone and life is Pura Vida!!!

Take care and enjoy the photos - hopefully we will be in touch again soon
Love the luna de miellers xxxx

The view to the street right outside our room in San Juan - from here we watched life pass by for the locals as well as a fight all the way down the street, cops arresting drunken Nicas on 7 year old Nica rum (which is bloody good by the way) dogs attacking cats and all other kinds of crazy shite!!

Most of the streets in SAn Juan and Nica look like this - most much worse and alot poorer though! These are their houses which double as their shops during the day!

Playa Tamarindo - known more commonly as Tamagringo - full of Americans but other than that is was a wicked place - great beaches, good surf for Mike and I and fully rated it!
