So Yesterday after my internet session i headed off to grab some grub and went to Villa Del Chef again as the lasagna had been so good the night before, i headed over there and Eric and Constantine were there and so we chatted to my food came and then they headed off and wished me luck on the rest of my trip.
I then went for a wander around Flores and bought some small gifts/trinkets which i will post when i can afford it and when i get chance to, as i was going to be up at 7.30am to go to Belize, i decided to head back to the hotel and i watched a little tv and then headed off to bed. I woke with a bad stomach as usual the anitbiotics have made it better but not cleared it yet but im hopeful it will be gone before South America.
So i was up at 6.30 and so i got ready and checked out and i waited till about 8pm before the bus finally turned up and the was me, two German guys, an American woman and an American couple, a Dutch guy and a Dutch
couple, i spoke to all of them during the journey and the road went from reasonable to dirt track, the American couple are retired and travel to different places a month at a time and have a place in Cancun, Phoenix and they live in Washington state, some people seem to have all the cash....lol.
The Dutch guy had been traveling through Mexico and Guatemala and was heading to the Belize coast to chill out before heading to Peru, the German guys were heading to Caye Caulker on the coast, the American woman had spent two months in Guate and she was not sure were she would go when she got to Belize City.
Both the American and Dutch couple were going to stay in San Ignacio and it appears they must have cash as i got here and the cheapest place was full and the next cheapest place is 20 dollars and i have to pay 15 dollars to exit Belize so theres my cash going thick and fast. I found out that the ruins i wanted to see are part of a tour and San Ignacio is the tour capital for holidaying American who have a
big holiday budget and not a lone backpacker like me.
Everyone is friendly here which is a bonus and they all speak with a Jamaican/Caribbean lilt and so no bad spanish for me to speak.....lol.
So all the tours are quoted in US dollars and the cheapest is like 55 dollars way out of my budget, i walked to the Cahal pechel mayan ruins as it was a 5 dollars to get in and was within in my budget...lol.
So the walk up the hill and back down again was longer than the walk round the vistors centre and the ruins, maybe its cause i have been spolit by copan and tikal.
After that i tried to find out about getting to Mexico, to be honest i had heard that Belize was expensive and i just wanted to tick it off my visited list and im more fussed about Tulum and other sites in Mexico and so instead of maybe spending a couple of days in Belize im heading for Mexico tomorrow. I tried to see about a direct shuttle to the border, but the is only one place in town that sells tickets for the
shuttle and after checking all day it was closed all day.
Therefore im going to have to bus it to Belize city and then a bus from there to Chetumal in Mexico and then another bus onto Tulum.
Food is not all that cheap in San Ignacio but i had a veggie burrito for lunch which was ok nothing special and a veggie burger and fries and the fries were cold, but i suppose Flores was a great place so the bad follows the good, but the British backpackers i met in Flores advised of a hostel in Tulum were the food and accommodation is not bank busting, so i may use that as a base and take trips to other ruins and stay in Tulum.
Well i will see what tomorrow brings, as for tonight im going to watch some TV, no TV in the room though, as San Ignacio is double what i paid in Flores and half the quality and the internet is double the price. so ill go catch some TV and then bed as the bus is at 7.20 am.
Adios amigos
