I suppose most people go on vacation to the Bahamas to lounge by the beach or the pool, drinking fancy drinks with little umbrellas in them, and to go on some fantastic excursions. While all of that is well and good, and completely accomplished by us, my family probably spent most of our time hanging at the bar watching the World Cup. Come on it only comes around once every four years so we couldn't miss a single game!!
My family took a vacation down to the island and stayed at the beautiful Hyatt Resort. We missed the first game in the morning so after checking in, taking a quick look around the place we found the largest T.V and got to watching the game. After two hours of screaming at the television my brothers and I headed off to take a true look at the place. What we found, we liked. There was a pool with a large slide, a jacuzzi, and a little lagoon. Lounge chairs dotted the beach along with a volleyball net and a little cabana to get those fantastic drinks with little umbrellas in them.
The trip was just a few days and followed
pretty much the same pattern. My brothers and I got down at to the bar before the first game began. We grabbed some breakfast and watched the game. We then headed out to the lagoon to chill in the sun and jump in the water when we got a bit to hot. Lunch time came around and so did game two! When that had ended, more time at the beach until dinner followed.
It might not sound like the most exciting vacation but I got to say it was one of my favorites. A beach, soccer, drinks, and family not a bad combination at all. And we met some awesome people while at the bar. While watching Ghana vs. USA we met a group of girls from Denmark. Grant it we were cheering for USA and they where cheering for Ghana, but we put aside those differences and spent a good amount of time with them even after USA lost in overtime in a heartbreaking 2-1 loss. During the Brazil game we met another fellow who was spending nearly a month in the Bahamas and joined us for nearly ever game.
Although breakfast and lunch were spent at
the hotel we did hit up a few restaurants around town. The second night we were there we all went to Senor Frogs which was a lot of fun and highly embarrassing. My brothers and I sang karaoke and I now realize I should never EVER pursue a singing career. The next night was spent at a little seafood place that had delicious food for super cheap prices!
The second to last day, when no games were going, we went on an excursion. Not just any excursion, but the one that brought you out into the ocean to swim with sharks! There were two other stops before the sharks were we all went snorkeling. There were so many fish of every color, but my personal favorite where the tiny jelly fish that seemed to sparkle a variety of colors from greens to blues to reds. Finally we made it to the last stop, the shark stop. We got ready to climb in, but then the guides said the sharks were acting a bit aggressive so we weren't allowed to go completely in. Instead we were allowed to just stick our faces into the water to check it out. Yeah
writing it sounds ridiculous right now haha lets just stick our face in the water with the aggressive sharks. But as me and my brother were about to do just that (we were one of the last in the line) they said the sharks were even to aggressive to do that!!! We were so bummed, so close to the water and yet not getting to go in and see them. But I suppose in the long run I should accept that the guides were just looking out for us.
There was also a casino at the resort so we spent several nights losing money, but not to much money! Overall a good time filled with family bonding and yelling at televisions.
