As usual a great description of this part of your journey AND I've just found out that I can view your pics as a slideshow (by clicking on one - it enlarges and the slideshow can be watched frame by frame). The marvels of modern tech are still elude me at times, but the pics are glorious - especially 'Pilgrim bathing on Gokarna beach '- I want it on my office wall please to relieve the drabness of a typical UK day...........
Waving vigorously Hi John and Penny, I just wanted to say how much I loved your description of the jungle and the river...I felt as if I could hear it and smell it. Magical. And these are some seriously beautiful photos too. Well done for your lovely travellers' tales. Go travellers go! xxxxx Jenny.
hammocks and all that Great photos, and great read. you seem really cheerful and I hope that is true. we are off to Kolkata in late Jan. courtesy of Jules Verne. not quite the same. I know it may be lowering the high standard but what about a shot of you in that hammock. just to prove a point as we look out on frozen fog. all best J
Wow what an adventure!!!!!!!! Good news re india, amazing how time is flying by, does not seem like you have been gone very long.
Have a great time and enjoy india!!!!!!!!!
quite a drama This is some saga ... and everything from ghastly death to impending birth in yr last blog ... very Gestalt, with all the polarities, indeed. - I keep getting left breathless!
Have a happy time back here, Penny, and wrap up warrmm, and off ye go, John, finally after several simple twists of fate...
Back here at Cobnor there was the most crystal clear new moon with 2 stars hanging off it this evening - like a fairy tale ... and me and the kids are now larking about throwing Quality Street and steaming a choccy pudding and David's playing the violin and we're all in quite a jolly mood for no apparent reason, and send love to you both thousands of miles apart for a change

hello lovelies dearest lovelies, it is great to read your blog, I am so excited by your adventures especially the people that you meet. I have missed one or two and i will catch up as soon as i have let you know I am listening! Peter and I and Susie and the grandchildren and Natasha have just spent half term in Morocco and Salaam Alekum works wonders there too. It was great to get outside Europe and into the colour and warmth of the Moroccans people who we love....especially the Berbers who were the originals before the Arabs arived, tribal people. I must get back to your blog now. Much love and namaste, tashi deleh and salaam alekum xxxxxJenny
omigod! Ian had to go and lie down after looking at picture of suspension bridge - which bit precisely is the bit you walk on?! Our bathroom tap has broken - do you have any suggestions? Love Ian and Ann

Hello John and Penny - glad to get the right blog address now and have bookmarked it for safe-keeping ...oh gosh and wow ... have just glimpsed your photos and some of your pennings ... but am off to do sheep (our ram, Victor, is grooving it with his 20 girlfriends), stuff with kids etc so will adjourn till there's a quieter moment to savour your stories ...

What's a "Qawwali?" Osh? Gosh! These blogs really do the trick, don’t they? It’s almost like being there with you, not that it would suit me! Crikey no! Still, I bet a nice cup of tea in a Chinese tastes really good after a week on horse-vinegar! You two do know how to have a good time. But this chap Bruno; is he kosher? Doesn’t sound a very French name to me, but what do I know? He might say Stephen doesn’t sound very English. No, that doesn’t work. Anyway, what I mean to say is do please be careful. I expect he’s fine. Nice of him really, to take you two old things under his wing. And the Jap cycling round the world! Fancy that! He wouldn’t want to do it on my old bone-shaker. It’s got four gears, but they’re Sturmey-Archer, tell him. He’ll know what I mean. Heavy? Phew! Anyway he’s probably literally miles away by now, knowing him. What was it like in Jurasic Park? I think I’d enjoy that as long as I was in the car, but my wife says “Don’t be so bloody daft!” and she’s probably right. She couldn’t even get me into the reptile house at Paignton Zoo last Saturday. I like the sound of those instruments you saw. You could bring me back a banjo. “I’m leaning on a lamppost at the corner of the street ” Did they do that one? It’s a favourite of yours Penny, I know. Oh no, that’s a ukulele . I get mixed up. Anyway, that all my news for now. “Carry On Up the Karakoram!” eh?
What's a "Yurt"? Gosh. Crikey. Fancy that! And I'd never even heard of Kyrgyzstan and there you two are swanning about in it as if you were that bloke named after a peppermint. Polo. That's it. Malcolm Polo. I knew I'd get it. It comes if you wait, don't you find? I do. Anyway, it all sounds Sooo exciting. But don't you worry? I'm sure I would. Going of in a Saloon into God-Knows-Where with nasty bumpy roads. I'd be thinking about the shock-absorbers. The Americans don't call them that. They have a different word. It'll come to me. Well I'm glad your little adventure went off well, what with the stars and all. But Pleeease don't go charging off like that again on your own. Do keep warm. What about the yaks? Are they what we used to call the Abominable Snowmen? Aren't they dangerous? That's where I've heard of them before! "Yaks Butter". What's that then? I do hope it's not rude. And the bit before all that, with the photos. Why's the old woman in the red cage? That's not the sort of thing you see in Burgess Hill. You must have a nice camera. Mine's OK, but I only seem to use it when the family visit. A bit of a waste really 'cos they're not cheap, are they? Do they have shops where you are? Can you get all you want? Petrol's a price now, isn't it? I think these blogs are good. I'd like one myself, but the wife says "What the Hell would you have to write in it, you bloody fool! We never go anywhere!", and I suppose she's right. But one day we might do. Anyway, have a nice time and, don't do anything I wouldn't do! "Dampers"! There. I knew it would come. Well that's all my news for now. Lots of love. Stephen (Smith).
Are you sure it's clean? Sounds great and good to see pictures too, although I am a bit concerned about your accomodation choices.I don't think you should accept anywhere under 4*. You just won't get the facilities. However that's just my preference .You seemed to be O.K with your starry sky.Keep the news coming. Its great to sit on my luxurious sofa and also imagine what it's like out there.Good on you you intrepid little pensioners. Love Jac xxx
Fly-Through!
Lovely description, what a fantasic trip! We're going to do a GoogleEarth fly-through of each leg...
Sorry about the wallet.

Keep us posted... By my reckoning, you should be boarding the train at Hassocks right about.........now. Keep safe and have a wonderful trip. Love you both xxx.
We are about to embark on an overland trip to India. We are going by train to Moscow, catching one of the 'Silk Route' expresses to Bishkek, capitol of Kyrgyzstan. From here its buses, first to Kashgar in Xingjiang, north west China, then along the Karakoram Highway To Pakistan, and finally to India.
We're both 60, with an ever-growing family of children and grandchildren. We're going to be away for about a year, so watch this space for updates!... full info
