This is a big of a deal This kind of things should not happen. It is interesting that you are talking about this issue on this media and not the people who should be really involved. Did you get the name or license number of this person. You should have gone to the nearest police statiion which are some in the Tamarindo, Santa Cruz area and complain. I am sorry about this situation but I can assure you this kind of things should never get un noticed. Where you in a hotel? did you speak with them? They should have helped you. Please help us to maintain our country bully free or at least a little bit less bully free
Tourist isssue!!! Bruce, when this happen just DEMAND (legally). That is the reason costarican tourist chamber exist....next time when this happen again, PLEASE DEMAND, costa rica is a free natural country and you can to complain about it, ask 4 his name ( the nasty cop) and code ( traffic police has a law code) , write it and i'm sure when he awares you re trying to demand he gonna stop to make this kind of corrupt acts.
Another suggestion: all the hotels in costa rica ( and including tourist bussines) has the politic to let to know this kind of issues to the costarican touristic institute ad start a legal writing demand ( such as complaining), so they can to help you about this...
Infact , i gonna care about it and i will investigate this issue , the police on the nearby of tamarindo-flamingo road.
thanks Bruce!!!! and bonne voyage !!
How True I have visited Costa Rica many times, traveled up and down the central valley, san isidro, then to golfito, up to dominical, which is one of my favorite areas, lush, beautiful. Up the bumpy road to Quepos, to Jaco, Puntarenus. There is a very nasty crooked cop there on the road over to Tamarindo Flamingo area, he has stopped us on 2 seperate trips up there when we weren't speeding but had some very high number on his radar gun and extorted us for money both times. At the airport talking to others, found one other couple that had been driving and caught by the same guy.
I love the country but a bully thief like that is a real deterrent for us to go up through that area any more...at least driving ourselves in a rental car. We had been there before and knew he was there, so we were not speeding, but no matter, it really annoyed us.
But the rest of the trip was amazing, went to the new marina papagayo, fished there for a day, then to flamingo for a couple of days on the beach and now back in the US.
LOVE CR!!!
