Ozark National Scenic Riverways is famous for canoeing and kayaking. But it is not same as which you would have done in any other river or lake. You will know how it is different shortly. I am not going to write the same detail which National park service has already mentioned on their website like you can visit this place all year..... blah blah and so on. But yes, to avoid crowd and get easy bookings and reservations, the ideal time is September or early May. From June to August, these rivers becomes like interstate on Friday evening and you might face traffic jams of kayaks, canoes and rafts. We started Saturday morning for Houchins Ferry Campground. We put coordinates in GPS which we took from a website and we ended up in middle of nowhere. We went back to visitor center which was 15 miles from that point and took the exact address of the campground and finally we reached there in evening. We were expecting a nice river side camping before we start an adventurous cave trip but we disappointed. Campsites were good but toilets were really dirty and stinky. We had to use visitor center's restrooms which are 20 miles far from the site. Water in the green river flows so slow that it looks still water only and you will see lot of junk and won't think to swim in that. My trip to Alaska was one of the best trips ever. It is one of the very few places in the world where you can find true wilderness and still accessible by road. This place comprises vast breathtaking mountains and tundra planes, diverse wildlife, dense forests, valleys, rivers, frozen lakes, glaciers and many more. There is something for everybody. Thanks to all those people who shared a lots of information about this place on internet which changed our point of view from a life threatening place to an adventurous and beautiful place.
