This is the 2nd ‘episode’ in another of 'our' travel experiences. The collective ‘episodes’ describe our journey from our arrival in London (2nd week of June) and across the 'ditch' to Ireland for a few weeks before a return home in mid July. This ‘episode’ describes our few days in Dublin, and our foray westwards and into Northern Ireland (Great Britain) before meandering down the rugged and wild west coast of Ireland. As always, if you want to 'see' more detail in an accompanying picture, click it to enlarge. We've attached a few pics that give you a flavour of our journey, and some 'flow over' past the dialogue. Dublin. The end of the first 'episode' had us arriving latish on Sunday into Dublin sunshine; which to that date had been a rarity. It appears that ... read more

This is the 1st ‘episode’ of another of 'our' travel experiences. The collective ‘episodes’ describe our journey from our arrival in London (2nd week of June) and across the 'ditch' to Ireland for a few weeks before a return home in mid July. This ‘episode’ describes our few days in London, and our first fortnight in Ireland. As always, if you want to 'see' more detail in an accompanying picture, click it to enlarge. We've attached a few pics that give you a flavour of our journey, and some 'flow over' past the dialogue. Ahhhh, it's like being home again. There is something about London that is so appealing. Yes, it's a 'world' city with all the hubbub and 'buzz' that that implies. Yes, most speak a dialect of English, and after many of our r ... read more

Myanmar Part 5 This 'blog' is the fifth (and last) describing our time in Myanmar (Burma to some). If you missed earlier 'episodes' in this series, you can find #1 here , #2 here , #3 here , and #4 here . As posts in the previous 'episodes' noted, when in Myanmar, we had the 'trouble' of very slow internet speeds. Given this, we were unable to add pictures to the previous 'blogs' in this series. Interestingly, when we were at the Yangon airport, we were able to access the internet with very fast speeds. It appears that v... read more

Myanmar Part 4 This 'blog' is the fourth describing our time in Myanmar (Burma to some). If you missed earlier 'episodes' in this series, you can find #1 here , #2 here , and #3 here . We've previously described the horrors of trying to use modern technology at 'dial-up' speed in Myanmar. We initially wrote this 'blog' while in Myanmar, and published it without pictures. Since our return to Australia, we've uploaded pictures to show aspects of our adventure. As always, if you want to 'see' more detail in an accompanying picture, Left Hand 'click' on it to enlarge. ... read more

Myanmar Part 2 This 'blog' is the second describing our time in Myanmar (Burma to some). If you missed the first one, you can find it #1 here . We wrote in the first part of this - our holiday 'blog' - that when entering Yangon we immediately knew we'd stepped into another 'space'. When moving up to Mandalay, our perceptions were further reinforced. Myanmar people operate on a quite different way-of-life to their SE Asian neighbours. For example, on the subject of timetables, we learnt there is a table, but all-too-often no-one really operates to the applicable time. On friendliness, there is no doubt that the Myanmar people are by far the happiest and friendliest people we've ever met. If two or more are together, then there will rarely not be a ... read more

Myanmar Part 1 This 'blog' initiates our series describing our time in Myanmar (Burma to some). When entering Yangon (known by the British as Rangoon - a term we prefer), we immediately knew we'd stepped into another 'space'. It was not until we started to 'do' things that we realised how different the 'reality' of this nation is compared to neighbouring states. We figure that the relative poverty and friendliness is sort of like the Khmer of Cambodia, and the business way of life a bit like the way the Han of Vietnam do things. When working, the 'dial-up' speed of the internet is unbelievably slow. And, the military junta have blocked so many websites that it's almost impossible to legitimately access anything from western websites. But, as in other repressed nations, the local 'tech-heads' have ... read more

South-East Thailand This is the second of a 2 part 'travel-blog' describing our time in Southern Thailand. When planning our sojourn to Myanmar, we decided to also include time in southern Thailand as we'd not been to this region before. Generally, as we live beside a globally 'world class' beach, we've not gone searching for beach locations to 'adventure'. That said, so many people give glowing reports of southern Thailand, we felt we'd be foolish to not go visit. To keep the 'blog' to a reasonable length, we've made it into 2 parts; this part which focuses on the 'south-east' part of southern Thailand; focussing on Nakhon Si Thamaarat. If you didn't get to read part 1, go click here As always, if you want to 'see' more detail in an accompanying pic... read more

Magical Melaka This 'travel-blog' describes our time in Melaka, Malaysia. When planning our sojourn to Thailand and Myanmar, we decided to also include a short 'side trip' to Melaka; not having been there for several years and always promising ourselves we'd return 'some day'. As always, if you want to 'see' more detail in an accompanying picture, click it to enlarge. Thursday 10 Feb. We departed Coolangatta airport (Australia) early for an 8 hour flight. Knowing we'd arrive about 3pm local time, we (pre)organised a rent-a-car. We chose not to use public transport options here as we figured we'd have our 'fill' later when journeying through Myanmar. Not long after arriving, and a short busride to KLIA to pick up the car, we were zooming along the freeway in the Skoda (an 'upgrade') towards Melak... read more
