Watching over us What an amazing mountain to watch over the town...the stuff of legends. Great photos as always Tara...love the faces, corridors & rooves.
Watching over us Yes, this mountain was quite a presence, and I went to see it every couple of days. Amazing that I never saw it on my first, rainy season visit, but the locals must know and feel it always. So lucky to have returned.
Bye bye Bolivia What a shame that you leave Bolivia. We will miss your blogs that brought back so many wonderful moments we had in this lovely country. Thank you so much! ...and happy travels

Bye-bye Bolivia! Thanks for the sweet words and glad to bring back memories, but did you also visit Peru? I'll have a few blogs about the lovely Cuzco area which was as fab as Bolivia. So many great places in the world!
Basking in the gentility of Sucre As always your love of South America comes out in your writing. Glad the white washed buildings gave you that "at home" feeling. Never far from your roots even when you travel. The good thing about life experiences and travel is that we can see something that can transport us to another time and place all while we appreciate our new surroundings. Comparing and contrasting similarities and differences around the world, learning about new cultures and understanding how each society has progressed is what it is all about. Love your blog. Love your photos. Love hearing about the dinosaurs. Bolivia has so much to offer.
Similarities and Differences! I so agree with your wise words. Enough differences to make it interesting, enough similarities to make a connection and not feel too adrift after 3 years of travel. Thank you so much for your kind words about my blog, and yes, little Bolivia is a gem!
Thanks, Roger! Thanks for letting me know you like my blog and photos. I've got a Sony Cybershot DSC-HX9V, and I leave it on automatic. The newer versions are faster and lighter. Before this, I had a tiny Panasonic Lumix that broke after 1.5 years (I dropped it a few times), but it took equally great photos.
Didn't know Bolivia for dinosaurs... ... so this blog was quite an eye-opener for me. Hmmm, that would be an interesting itinerary, a trip to Bolivia following the dinosaurs' trail. Anyway, great pictures as always!
Yummy food! Ah yes, the mercado. I remember they used to have a dozen or so smoothie stands on the ground floor, which would have a whole array of fresh fruit and veggies to throw into the mix. We also ate at Florins. I've visited Arequipa twice before, and seem to remember that there are some pretty good almuerzo offers at some of the nicer restaurants. Though Arequipa also had 'proper' supermarkets, which were harder to find in Bolivia.
juices and smoothies I'm a huge fan of fruit juices, but I really prefer the Peruvian ones because they use pure fruit. The Bolivians always cut them with milk or water, except for the oj that I'd have almost daily from street carts. I'll check out the almuerzos, but generally I've seen lots of flesh, white rice and fries--none of which I like. I'll check again--thanks.
The white city. We stayed in Sucre for a month back in 2008 as they celebrated their 200 years independence anniversary from Spain. We got to know the city quite well, so it's a shame you weren't there now as we could give some great tips on local food haunts. -- if you reveal to us where you are right now perhaps we can prevent this from happening in future ;-)
Yummy food! Thanks for the offer--I'm now in Arequipa, Peru, and theoretically headed north. In Sucre, I often bought fab fruit and veggies in the mercado and for a treat, I ate at Dutch-owned Florins, which had great Dutch and Indonesian food. I'd love your tips!
Third page, please So fabulous that you like the big lizards--it's so great to know I'm not alone! The electricity went out here (again), but the 3rd added page with lots of the big beasties should show up soon! Enjoy!
Arches & Architecture Great collection of architectural wonders in this blog Tara with the usual other worldly colours. Gotta say more dinosaurs please.
Dinosaurs, arches and rocks I love these three and take so many more photos than I could ever post or anyone else would want to see. However, just for you and other dino wonks, David, I'll add a third page of photos--dinosaurs galore!
Obscurity & gems of days gone by The forgotten Potosi sounds marvelous and the festival grand. Loved every photo! The vibrance of life. Lingering in the bell towers--- I have a fear of falling so I hold on tight. Your blog makes me want to grab the next plane and head to Bolivia! I would not like balloons filled with water or paint. Guess I'd better stay away from that event.
Wonderful Bolivia! I think you would love Bolivia, and Potosi, while challenging, was amazing. I generally avoid festivals in Latin America because of the drinking, but water/paint balloons were even worse. Glad you liked the photos!
I´m a one-way ticket, slow traveler, relishing the freedom of the open road and trusting serendipity to guide my journey. When I was younger, I used to travel for a year at a time. Then a few years ago, I roamed Europe and North Africa for three and a half years and liked that even better.
On August 1st, 2010, I left my peaceful Mission Canyon paradise in Santa Barbara's mellow summer and emerged from a couple of planes a day and a world later in the teeming, sub-zero streets of Buenos Aires´winter. Now, with the Andes, Amazon and Galapagos between here and home, will three years be enou... full info
