Going to Australia for the first time to celebrate our 30th anniversary with hubby Rex. The photograph was taken on the actual day of our anniversary at Le Manoir aux Quat Saisons a few weeks ago, after a good meal! It will be so good to miss February in the northern hemisphere and on our return, with luck, the daffodils will be out and the days a little longer.
BRISBANE, Queensland - 31° Brisbane will be remembered for its wonderful wide river, well used and very scenic. From our mooring at Portside Wharf we boarded a City Cat (high speed catamarans - $ 6 single) at nearby Bretts Wharf for a trip into town which took 50 minutes and got off at South Bank, walking around the lagoons (Streets Beach) admiring the trees and birds and watching people bathing from the artificial beach. It was hot and humid and we felt a little tired so had a fish lunch at the Centre for Performing Arts by the big wheel, walked past the main Theatre where David Suchet was appearing and then walked over Victoria Bridge into the main town centre. Melbourne– Victoria - Saturday 8 Feb. 2014 – 39 ° Melbourne's roots can be traced back to the 1850s, when gold was found in the surrounding hills. British settlers took up residence and prided themselves on coming freely to their city, rather than having been forced here in convict chains. More Greeks live here than in any other city outside Athens and a third of Melbournians were born outside Australia making for an interesting melting pot of races and interests. We watched Chinese practising Tai Chi in the park, ate great seafood tapas and heard a great variety of languages. Melbourne (pronounced Mel bun) is beautifully laid out and a lovely city all together. The elegant tree lined boulevards give it a very European feel.
