Thank you Hi,
Thank you for sharing this with the world. I have kept a diary for years, but the one I kept from August 2006-February 2007 was in a rucksack which was stolen from me when travelling in Buenos Aires. I really enjoyed being able to reminisce through your blog. (Sorry for the multitude of comments!) I hope you enjoy the rest of your travelling and your time at the Anglo. One day I hope to be able to go back myself!
Good luck,
Sandy
:) And again!
It's great reading your blog - brings back loads of memories :)
With the transport, don't get yourself on crutches! I managed to sprain / fracture my ankle when I was travelling and had to negotiate the bus steps with crutches when I got back to Asuncion - not fun! I stayed in the house for a week, then had to grit my teeth and go outside. Apart from that 2-month period I loved walking around the city, once I knew which areas were 'safe', although on that note I think most places are as long as you don't flash anything expensive (like cameras, mp3 players...) - not that that stopped me from taking loads of photos.
Did you know that Paraguayans are responsible for maintaining the section of pavement outside their house? That means the pavement is chaos - one of my main memories is negotiating the potholes / gas covers etc!
Say hi to Nora for me - she was like a second mum to Cressida and I!

Wow! Hi,
Me again! I wish someone had told me all of that before I arrived :) I never got a real visa (don't tell anyone). Instead I travelled for a weekend every time it expired. Our journey was much longer than yours - we decided to fly to Lima, then got buses from there. Tiring and not recommended, but good for stories now :) It's great that Crucero del Norte now allow you to book online - they hadn't started doing that when I was there (back in the day!).
Thanks again,
Sandy
Anglo Hi,
It's great to hear from someone else at the Anglo. I was there 2006-2007. I guess you're probably doing the British Council Assistantship? I loved my time there - loads of great people, fun and the foundations of my current teaching career (I'm in Brno in the Czech Republic now). I was reading about your groups, and I think the student you have at the pharmaceutical company may have been mine in the past :)
If you're travelling now, have fun. It was two of the best months of my life so far - amazing experiences!
Good luck for the rest of the year!
Sandy
Hey, interesting reading about your time in Paraguay. I am a teacher too, in south korea but I was in South America for six months just before this and LOVED it! Traveled Argentina, Brasil, Uruguay, Bolivia and Peru. I would love to come back to work there - so wondering how did you get your job? P.S My blog is on here too (on Korea and South America)

Paraguay Hi honey,
Yes, they do know who foreigners are right away. I was in the same position as you were 26 yrs ago. You kinda get used to it though and then you feel one of the gang. What I love about Paraguay is .... you are YOU here and back home, it feels as if you are just one in a million of milliones! Men won't be able to keep their eyes off you because you are a lovely girl, it does get a tad annoying when they make some really gross comments - they think they can grab your attention that way but all they are doing is making themselves look bad. When I first arrived, I would get so many young men getting up off their seats on the bus... now..... they just ask me to shove up and I am left standing until I actually fight my way to the back of the bus and sulk lol. I'm sorry to hear that you missed your brother's big day and NO, you won't get it back but just think, you will be back home before you know it and perhaps share their first anniversary with them. I'm glad that you all decided to rent the flat and you will settle in a lot more and be able to listen to YOUR type of music. Remember if you need any advice or just want to come and let off steam to an older person ( Have I just admitted my age? pmsl) you are most welcome to come into my bat cave. Hugs and btw , have I told you that you should take up photography, you seem to be a natural! xxxxxxxxxxxxxx
