Day 21 of our trip mostly consisted of the train ride from Berlin to Munich. We left Berlin at 7.50a.m. and arrived in Munich at 2.20p.m. - which felt like a very long time to be in a train! Luckily it was relatively empty and we were able to stretch out a little bit. And we didn't have to hunt through the carriages for spare seats as there were quite a few. When we arrived in Munich we headed to the A&O Hostel on foot, as it appeared to be quite close on the map. Unfortunately, it was the wrong one. There are two of them in Munich and there is nothing to distinguish them from one another except for the street names. We had only walked about ten minutes to this hostel (and it was ... read more

We began our day by getting up late enough to miss breakfast, and wandered down to Maccas to eat there and use their (hopefully) free internet. As it turns out, you have to pay to use the WiFi in the McDonalds here, and it is pretty expensive, so we ate some food - they have curly fries at these Maccas, yum - and headed back to the cafe we had gone to yesterday since we knew it had free WiFi. After sitting there for about 2 hours catching up with everyone back home (well thats what I was doing, Danny was downloading new games onto his iPhone and then playing them) we decided to head out and see Berlin. We headed to a mall where we knew there was a H&M store - recommended by Laura ... read more

On day 19 we took a free tour of Berlin through newberlin. I had heard about it while doing research for our trip, and it had been talked up a lot by a few different people, so we figured it would be worth a shot. As the tour guides do it just for tips, they put a lot of effort into making the tours good! It was a very good tour, and I feel like I got so much information that it would take me a week to write it all down. I won't put you all through that - I'll try and keep this one relatively short. We met at Starbucks near the Brandenburg Gate at 11am, and sat in the freezing cold while everyone got sorted (there were a lot of people there). We ... read more

Day 17 was our last day in Brussels, so we decided to get a really good taste of Belgium life: drinking beer and eating chocolate. Our first stop on the day of beer was a brewery in Brussels called the Cantilion Brewery. We went through the factory looking at the process and each step they take. I think Manford got a bit drunk from the fumes, because he was being quite silly, and even tried to hide in with the beer at one point, hoping we wouldn't notice and that he could just stay there. It was interesting learning about how they make the beer as they don't use the usual process - the beer is called a "living beer" as it ferments further in the bottle (after fermenting for 1, 2 or 3 years in ... read more

Day 16 was possibly the most amazing day since we started our holiday adventure... We started off by getting up much later than we had planned to, and catching a train and then a bus out to the airport. We were meant to get there at 9am to pick up the hire car, but it didn't end up mattering. We were slightly worried that they would charge us exra for not being there at the time we said we would, but they didn't even mention it when we got there at 10.30 and signed all the paperwork. We had to pay a bit extra for being under 25, but we soon had the keys and were walking back through the airport feeling quite old since we were renting a car... I know that sounds a bit ... read more

Day 14 - We began the day with a very poor breakfast - they brought it up to our room, which sounded like it would be great, but they failed to bring any milk for the tea.... All I wanted was some tea! We ended up going and having a second breakfast after tipping the milk-less tea and coffee down the smelly drain, and only eating one of the hard-looking croissants. From here we attempted to go to the Palais Rohan, but discovered upon arriving that it didn't open until 12. Luckily it had only been a two minute walk from our second-breakfast, so we headed to the Alsatian Museum instead. Fifteen minutes later, we arrived there to find that it also did not open until 12pm. So we continued on, heading to Petit France to ... read more

Day Thirteen - we got up very early (well Danny did anyway, he then had to convince me that I really did want to get out of bed so we could go catch the train), finished packing, and checked out of the Victor Masse. We hauled our ridiculous amount of luggage through two metro stations, and finally, with zero help from the snooty guy at the metro ticket office, we found our way out of the station and across the road to the main station. We then had to figure out where to line up to buy our tickets to Strasbourg. This was way harder than it sounds. Yet another moment where we wished we cold speak French, we found the only line we could see and joined it. Fifteen minutes later we found out we ... read more

Day 12 was our last full day in Paris as we are heading out on a train to Strasbourg early tomorrow morning. We started the day a bit later as the Musee d'Orsay was our first stop of the day, and it doesn't open until 10. Unfortunately this meant that the breakfast area was almost completely full and we gave up trying to get in and get breakfast and just went to Maccas to see how it tastes in France. It was okay, but definitely not great! While they do have actual bacon instead of chicken bacon, it is very thin for some reason and incredibly salty. We then got on the Metro and made our way to the Musee d'Orsay to do Danny's favourite thing: join a huge line. I'm pretty sure the lines are ... read more

Day Eleven - Paris. Wow, it seems like we have been away for much more than eleven days! Which is brilliant. I thought that the trip would go past way too quickly, but we still have so much ahead of us and haven't actually been away that long at all! We started with another fairly early morning of breakfast in the hostel and then headed out. I love Paris in the morning. It is still very quiet, there is no one honking at each other and its very still and the cold seems to hang in the air a little bit. We caught the metro to the Notre Dame, which well, I think was the most disappointing thing we have visited so far on our trip. I don't necessarily mean this in a bad way. When ... read more

Day 10 - Paris We woke up bright and early (about 5 am) on day ten - we are still a bit confused with the time difference, so we made ourselves sleep until about 7 and then got up and got ready. We had breakfast at the motel, it is decent (juice, tea, coffee, toast, croissants, cereal) but nothing special. It will be interesting to see some of the things we get served for breakfast. Nothing can be weirder than the breakfast in Lumut, Mayalsia, where we had a hot buffet breakfast, most of which consisted of rice, curries and mixed veggies. Then we went back upstairs to get organised for the day and our first priority was locating Manford. We had a theory that he was probably in one of Danny's pockets, as this is ... read more
