I cannot agree more with you on that point. Guilin is a famous tourist city in China, even known in the world. There are so many attractions to visit and appreciate. What I have listed in the last comment is just small part of them. It is true that you can not make it in such short time, but why don't you take an extended Guilin tour in the futher? Perhaps, it will be months or years later you can manage it. You will find more and enjoy more. Here I want to end my comment by words of Richard Nixon, another U.S. President ,"I have visited more than 80 countries and over 100 cities. I have found that no city can surpass the beauty of Guilin. Guilin is really a bright pearl in China." Have a nice day. :)

Odyssey China
Hi There. Thanks for your comment. We did do the Reed Flute Cave which is very cool. I heard the show that happens at Yangshou is quite amazing, and I am a bit disappointed that we didnt get to see it, but it is like a carrot to come back to Guilin sometime in the future. I am also very keen to see some of the other attractions, but I guess there is a problem with so many places to see, while so little time.

Suggestions for Guilin attractions from a Guiliner
I just came across your Li River Cruise, which interests me. It is really enjoyable to read your blog. Finishing my reading, I want to share some of my thoughts about Guilin with you. I came to Guilin 2 years ago for my further education. So I could be called as a Guiliner. Guilin is a beautiful city. I think you have the same feeling after your trip. But, the best time to visit Guilin is SPRING, April to July. The weather is not too hot nor too cold. But it rains a lot, which forms the unique scenery of Li River and Karst hills. If you take a cruise on the river just after the rain, you will probably find that you are traveling in a fairland, or a paradise on the earth. There are many wonderful scenic areas, more than Li River and Mt Diecai you just visited. The recommended tourist sopts include: Seven Star Scenic Area where Bill Clinton, the former US president, and other celebrities had visited and praised; Elephant Trunk Hill, the symbol of Guilin City; Reed Flute Cave, marvelous are the stalactites, stalagmites, and columns that can be found inside the cave; Longji Terrace, a best place for hiking with the exotic countryside views. I think these place you should not miss when you are taking another Guilin tour. Oh, there is another outstanding performance show in Yangshuo. Impression Liu Sanjie night show is really stunning show, which is directed by Yimou Zhang, the Director of Beijing 2008 Olympics Opening ceremony. You will ABSOLUTELY enjoy it.
