Lovely!
Hi Russ and Trish, Great to see that you made it to Pcawl and good to hear it was windy as always! And the new Borders in Cardiff sounds very exciting - I look forward to paying it a visit. It all seems very far away from Bogota though, where we find ourselves at the moment. Also, I would love to buy your house but fear that you want more than 10 quid for it. I will pass on the details to friends in that area though and let you know if I hear anything back! Take care and "pob lwc" for Syria, Ruth

Hi Russ, hope you have a great birthday tomorrow. We'll be off trekking tomorrow so might not get a chance to write then. Rio looks fab by the way, I regret not seeing it on this trip!

Great description!

Rabbit Cheese
The menu you saw Rabbit Cheese was probably written by a foreign retaurant owner who confused the word CoAlho (processed milk) with CoEilho (Rabbit).

i totally have to teach my dog to do that!

Monte Alegre
There are rock paintings just outside Monte Alegre that may be more than 10,000 years old. Those paintings along with other evidence of early human habitation are contributing to a revision of theories on when the Amazon was settled. You were fortuate to get into the upper Panorama II. It was full when my wife and I got there and we found that our reservations were actually in the lower Panorama -- a miserable little cabin with leaky roof, a yardfull of rosters that crowed most of the night, no screens and many mosquitos and an air conditioner that kept flipping the circuit breaker. We put up with it for two nights then moved to a really basic hotel by the dock, as the upper Panorama was still full. Good thing we did as the boat we'd booked (and paid for) in Santarem showed up about six hours earlier than expected and we had to pack and move really fast to catch it. KST

Looks perfect!
Hi guys! Wow, this looks like a great place to spend a few days - nothing better than splashing around in the water! And I am very jealous of your curry fix - I´ve now gone 6 months without a curry and not sure I can wait until I get back to Wales in September! Take care and happy travels, Ruth.

pobrecito
In defense of turtles... They don't like to be suspended like that. I consider this turle abuse! And furthermore, they can be surprisingly fast. They may sit in one place for an hour, but just leave the room for 20 seconds... When you return you'll be confronted with the case of the missing turtles. Where did they go? So, let's give turtles a little respect!

que saudades!
Sinto saudades! I hope you are going to some of the smaller beach towns around Fortaleza! Jericoacoara is definitely a highlight and Canoa Quebrada is also beautiful. I'm sure it's good to be out of the Amazon, though. That can be a pretty rough one. Hope you're having loads of fun!

Quite an adventure...
Sounds like quite a trip you had there, though I don't like the look of that spider! I hope we can make our way out here in a few months time.

Hi, this is very interesteing, as I am planning to volunteer in San Miguel del Bala for a month (mid-march to mid-april). Is there anything you recommend I bring? or just any advice in general for my stay there (hopefully i'll have more to do!).

No hot water or electricity in the jungle. That makes me extremely envious. I can't quite explain it, but this Chicagoan is envious. really wish I was there with you. REALLY
