It's the second last day of my Europe trip. When I got down this morning, I saw the South African boys I met in Manchester. Wow, what a small small world. My simple breakfast was followed by a Greenwich half-day tour, where my first stop was Royal Observatory. I got out from light rail station, passed the Greenwich Park with the help of road signs, climbed up a hill and came to the Royal Observatory. Maybe because it was morning or there was a huge lawn nearby, I felt so refreshed when I looked down from the Observatory. First I visited the museum in the Observatory where history of time and observatory instrument and answered my time-related queries. After that, it came to one of the highlights of my London trip--Prime Meridian of the World. The ... read more

I left my room at eight sharp and looked for a breakfast downstairs, but I was surprised to find I was the earliest diner, even staff was only a bit earlier than me and water was still cooking. I had a simple breakfast, then I asked about the exact location of Hampton Court Palace. The staff was so eager to check the map for me. Nice~~ Located in Zone 6 of Hampton, SW London, Hampton Court Palace, as I expected, was about one hour an a half from my hostel. I followed the direction, walked for about 10 minutes and came to one of the palaces of Henry VIII. After buying the tickets, I was led by a tour guide who dressed in the old times. First I came to a large hall where "wood carvings" ... read more

Didn't sleep very well because of the "real man show" in my room last night. I walked to Victoria after breakfast and visited a free exhibition in Urbis. The exhibition was about drinking culture in Manchester and mentioned about the history of a famous pub/club in the past. Then I went back to my hostel to take my luggage. Man I really like this hostel a lot. Not only is it cheap, but also it provides with super clean and neat rooms and fantastic shower in the bathroom. Super recommend it as a hostel. It's so upset to come to the last stop in Manchester: Canal Street. The district is famous for its gay culture with many gay/les pubs open in it. Colour flags, meaning "peace" originally and interpreted as "homosexual" nowadays, were everywhere in Canal ... read more

I returned to my hostel after 5am and carefully opened the room door so as not to wake up my roommates. After having fun for a night, I only slept for four hours and my eyes were so dry that I couldn't wear contact lens. I had a simple breakfast in the pantry, where I learnt from a Taiwanese girl that there were expensive tickets selling outside the stadium yesterday!! I could have watched an excellent game!! I started off to the home stadium of Manutd, Old Trafford Stadium, at around 9:45am. Metro and bus were the main transport in Manchester City. Old Trafford was 20 minutes away from city centre, yet the stadium was pretty far away from the metro station, it's already after 10 when I arrived there. The bar outside the stadium looked ... read more

It's the most leisure day of my whole trip. I wanted to visit the largest museum in National Railway Museum, but it only opened after noon and I had to give it up and went to Yorkshire Museum instead. Yorkshire Museum showed the history of human being but its content wasn't as rich as York Castle. Personally I think it's not a must. I love the grass in front of the museum though, should be one of the best places to lay down on during summers afternoon I think. Then I went back to hostel and got back my luggage. I walked for about 15 to 20 minutes and came to the station. York is only one of the terminals on the way to Manchester, so it was already lucky when I was able to find ... read more

After I woke up, I went to the laundry and took a buffet breakfast in the youth hostel. There were not many types of food available, but their taste was quite good, and the most important-- hot enough--warming up your body in a cold autumn. Time spent on laundry as well as distance between hostel and town center were both longer than expected, so it was already after nine when I arrived at City Wall. Luckily the town area of York was quite small indeed, and places that looks to be far on the map could be reached within several minutes of walk. However, not sure of what ceremony the local government held, York Minster was "engaged". Based on the assessment by the police, they expected it won't be re-opened until 2 or 3 pm in ... read more

I spent about one hour to pack my luggage last night. It was the last night to sleep with Jeanseb in the same bed, huh, sort of miss it...At about three or four, I was awake and found my friend was sleeping in the only gap between my head and the bedside, looking funny yet feeling we are getting closer and closer. At the moment I was about to fall asleep again, I felt my right shoulder got heavy, so I looked...omg he slept on my shoulder...I tried to wake him up but failed, so I gave up at last and closed my eyes again. At about six sth, I said goodbye to one of my best male friends. I didn't cry, just feeling a bit sad. I wasn't sure when we'll meet again but I ... read more

While I was still in bed, I heard laughters and hestitation when he was locking the doors, huh, he must have been thinking about the incident on Mon, I bet. My first stop was Roland Garros tennis court, where the French Open plays every May. Man I was the first guest that day!! The staff told me, "You have to wait until 11:30 thirty to join the tennis court tour and it takes an hour," so I visit the museum solely. The museum in on the basement floor, is indeed, divided into two parts: museum and arts gallery. Museum section tells the history of Roland Garros, tennis rackets, and of course, cups and plates; arts gallery displays some arts pieces derived from tennis, such as a segment of grass court with tennis mark and colourful paintings ... read more

I left at 9am this morning with an uneasy feeling: something's missing. After getting a seat on a train, I figured it out - after deducting the entrance fee of Musee du Louvre, I've got only three to four euros and I left my credit card at home! There were not many people when I arrived at Louvre and I manged to get in the museum in 20 minutes. Similar to Versailles, Louvre is a place where you can spend a whole day (or even more) on it. The arts museum is the largest I've ever been to and its entrance fee is less than 10 euros. It spreads wide in European elegance with a glass pyramid as its entrance, blending modern and classic design perfectly. No wonder it is one of the landmarks of Paris ... read more

Today should be the most difficult day in my Paris trip. Not sure if it was because of jet lag or my laziness, I left an hour later than scheduled, and it was already 10:30 when I arrived at Chateau de Versailles. The main gates themselves were gorgeous enough to hold your breath. Passing through the plaza in front of the gates, I came to the entrance of the palace. I followed the chaos and arrived at the chapel. Wow, finally I unveiled the palace. The first thing I saw was a huge organ while sunlight penetrated softly via the coloured window. Next I climbed up the marble staircase and reached the living place of Louis XIV and his queen on the 1st floor. No matter in bedrooms, study room or guest room, all of the ... read more
