My wife and I are immigrants. Ann comes from Sydney, Australia and I come from the Hague, Holland. We have been living for almost forty years in the South of Johannesburg, South Africa. We call ourselves South Africans.
In March 2004 and nearing the end of our working days, we discovered we both harbored secret wishes to see China. One night in bed, my wife saw on the inside of her eyes the almost unbroken landmass between SA and China and realized China could be reached by car.
That´s where it started.
We bought a car, a Land Rover and converted it into a primitive but adequate camper. A year later we sold our house and took off. We have traveled ever since.
Since our cars played an important role in the years of travel, I mention them here: The Land Rover we started out with, the Renault master for Europe mainly, a Toyota Condor we traveled with in South America and finally the Toyota troop carrier.
