Once you leave the Gare Nord, Paris central station, this might be first imression: this is so gray. The architecture is beautiful, with great craftsmanship and lots of attention to details, but the previously while or light gray concrete fesades have all grayed with years of exposure to city pollution. Despite lack of color int its buildings the city is compact, very vibrant and full of life, desigend for foot traffic with lots of shops, restaurants, parks and corner stores , so walking will never get boring, but can it can get very frustrating even if you are following a map.
