christmas i am glad that you are doing well down on the other side of the world. that's pretty neat that you got to participate in their ceremonies. it is interesting to know exactly how other cultures celebrate things. good luck with that giardia and rice combo. lov ya sis and stay safe. your bro.
Thank you so much for sharing this with us. I had wondered if they celebrated Christmas or ir you and the other PCV's had your own celebration. I enjoyed this very much.
Happy New Year!
Love,
Grandma
Wow That's really remarkable. And to think what we refuse to offer when we have so much and what they offer when they have so little. It puts it all in some kind of perspective and I'm glad that you share these moments with us so that we might remember what human kindness and life are supposed to be about.
Did you ever? It sounds like you are have the time of your life. Working hard, playing harder! How proud of you we all are.
Did you ever get the cookies I sent? Also tea and sweetner. Not sugar, sweetner weighs less.

found you jamie...happened upon your blog via a meandering route of searching the web for blogs from pcv's. yes...and indication that i am a bit nostalgic and reminiscent. excited to follow along from here and listen to how it all unfolds. mahatsiaro anareo aho!
It's hard to realize that you are having winter and cold. We are starting to get hot! I'm grateful for my air conditioning. I look forward to your letters. Love you much. Grandma
It is so good to hear from you. I look forward to your blogs. Maybe you will have to sleep with the light on to keep the fleas away if they start to come back! Love, Grandma
Peace Corps Do you know Tara Stohler? I think she was in your group......she is a friend of mine from the states. I too was a PCV Niger, Tara came to visit me while I was there. Good luck with everything!!!

still having trouble with fleas? Do this: at night, set a roasting pan or low container on the floor containing soapy water (dish soap is what I used) and shine a light on it. A desk lamp works perfectly, but a table lamp will also do. The closer you can get the light to the water the better. The little fleas commit suicide by jumping toward the light and into the soapy water. No pesticides!
It was so good to hear from you again. I really enjoy hearing about the country and, of course, hearing about you and what you are doing) It's hard to believe you have been there for six months. About the time you really get comfortable with the language, it will be time for you to come home!
Love, Grandma
you go girl! Hi jamie, I'm mama ny Patrick and have really enjoyed connecting a little more with Pat thru sharing your experiences. You have even inspired me to incorporate some Malagasy in my letters to Patrick! I so admire all of you for stretching yourselves and in the process leaving this earth a little better place. You go girl!!!
Fleas Hey there,
I had a letter all set to send to you and some how I still have it. I had a little method for helping with the flea situation. Uou put a low pan, kind of like a baking pan on the floor and fill it with water, then set a small cup upside down with a little candle on top, and keep it on at night. The fleas will try to hop to the light, and end up in the water where they will meet their demise. It's better than using a chemical although you end up waking to the Poseidon Adventure. My neighbor had a cat whose fleas decided to seek asylum in my place and this little method helped a lot. I hope it can bring you a little peace.
Hugs,
Jessica
rachel berthiaume's mom I am sorry you are being harassed by the fleas. I have heard they are a plague there. I don't think rachel has been inundated by them yet. Hope that you can overcome all the challenges.
Amazing Jamie Jamie, you are an amazing young woman. don't forget that just because you get to meet other amazing young women like you. Thank you for the work you are doing there. You have been and will continue to be blessed by it.
and thanks for sharing it with me. Love, Sheila
Hey there Cutie Girl Hey there, I got your letter, it was very exciting, I really need to mail you a letter and pictures...there is so much to tell so many exciting things are going on for me right now, and I wish that I could call you up and tell you all about it! But I will just have to write you a letter and send you some pictures like I said...I love you girl and I miss you lots! Take care and know that you are loved! ~B
Happy Holidays! Jamie--oh my! You amaze me! I'm so proud of you and envious of all the life you're experiencing! It always saddens me how "materialist" people have become, especially during the holidays but reading your journal entries remind me what life's all about. You're on an incredible ride-you've worked hard for the woman you are today and I'm so grateful to have you in my life! I'll send a care package soon! BIG HUG! Be well!
Merry Christmas Hi Jamie,
I hope all is going well and you are keeping so busy you don't have time to think about what all of us without an adventurous spirit are doing. We think about you all the time and wish you well.
Love,
Aunt Terry
I am a 20-something world-traveler who wants to explore as much as I can. I am living in Madagascar now as a PCV doing Community Health Education. I am a voracious reader, and occasionally dabble in writing poetry. I love being outdoors, especially in Montana. I find the mountains in M'car resemble Montana, so I am very tamana here. I have a passion for spending time with children and I look forward to the adventures life takes me on!
