We started the day bright and early being picked up at 06:05 for out trip to the Kakado National Park! That's early in anybodies language but when you're traveling it's painful! It took the coach around 4 hours to reach our first stop an aboriginal culture center. This was a really interesting place where culture, tradition and history were displayed in an interesting and thought provoking way. From here we went to "The Yellow Water Billabong" for an hour and a half cruise spotting crocodiles and the many birds that inhabit this area. After a buffet lunch we headed to the "Nourlangie Rock Art Site" where we saw examples of aboriginal paintings which were pretty cool even when we found out some were painted in 1962! Our last stop was for Cheese & Wine (chilled bloody ... read more

We can not over state the humidity in Darwin! Saying that Charlie still undertook a half hour run. Cold showers are the order of the day! The morning was spent organising our accommodation for the next three nights in Darwin, Bali & Hong Kong. along with booking two Darwin day trips. In the afternoon we went to "Crocosaurus Cove" basically a Crocodile inner city park. The highlight of which was watching them being fed and holding an 18 month baby (1.5 meters long)! We then did what is now becoming a habit and had an ice-cream. For our dinner we walked to Cullen Bay and ate in one of the many restaurants over looking the harbour. We've been lucky and as yet haven't been caught in a thunderstorm, though we did witness a pretty impressive one ... read more

Today we left Sydney for Darwin. The best laid plans of mice and men. Once again we had issues with our airport shuttle, this time they completely forgot us! Luckily I could contact them on my mobile and could arrange another pick up. Again nothing is straight forward as he only had one seat. We finally arrived after twenty minutes with Charlie in the cab and myself sitting on the engine between Charlie and the driver. Though I shouldn't complain as I was the only one with a heated seat! For the second time we managed to fly domestically without having to show any photo ID! Don't be surprised to hear of an Australian 9/11! The first thing you notice about Darwin is the humidity! Wow, Hot & Very Sticky! We were also really surprised to ... read more

The morning of our last full day in Sydney was spent organising our new itinerary. Fortunately we were looked after by a really pleasant chap from Qantas (after two rude people, one at Trailfinders and one other at Qantas)! After this we grabbed a bus to Bondi beach. It seems that today was the hottest day for six months hitting 32. The surf at Bondi really was impressive (unlike some of the topless lasses), though the beach was a lot smaller than we expected. The best way to describe Bondi would be as a Cornish cove. We eat at the Pavilion having Dory & chips and Calamari & chips over looking the beach. After lunch we walked the coastal walk from Bondi to Clovelly. This was the highlight of the day as we found a few ... read more

Blessed with fantastic weather and with a touch of the sublime we watch with thousands of others the Sydney Christmas Parade! This comprised of multiple Marching Bands and Girl Guides holding large inflatable Xmas objects (from reindeer and candy sticks to panda bears!). Next up was the Rocks Sunday market followed by our free Bridge Pylon Lookout. This included information about the construction of the bridge and the political struggle to initially get it built, along with the fantastic views of the harbour. We then spent a few hours still trying to decide what to do about the "Bangkok Issue". To lighten our souls we then watched the new James Bond film Quantum of Solace, though this time with the general population in the cheap seats! ... read more

With yet another early start we went on a two hour train ride out to Katoomba to see the Blue Mountains! We left a very downcast Sydney for a beautifully sunny day. We decided on the hop-on hop-off trolley rather than the London Bus (they seem to be everywhere around the world). Our first stop was to Scenic World where we took (another) gondola across a 1000 foot valley. We then took the Scenic Railway down into the rain forest. This is the worlds steepest railway, being typical kids we waited to get the front seats, and with the Indiana Jones theme tune playing we descended at 52 degrees. Quite a ride in a rickety little train. Once down we walked (& I slipped and fell - something that comes with age) around the rain forest ... read more

Due to the Bangkok not being a viable route for our plans we have been forced to change our itinerary! We now fly to Darwin tomorrow (2nd) and then on to Bali on the 7th. From Bali we fly to Hong Kong on the 15th staying there until the 18th. Landing three days early (due to flight availability) in London at 13:30 on the Friday the 18th. ... read more

Once again the weather has changed for the worst. So with rain in the air we decided to watch "Australia" the movie. We treated ourselves to the "Gold Club" showing, which only seated 64 and included waiter service! What a great way to watch a good (though slighly cheesy) 3 hour film. Half way through we were served our pizza and another round of drinks! The film itself lived up to the hype and we would both recommend it! In the afternoon we lost two hours trying to work out what we would do if the Bangkok airports aren't open by the 2nd, though still undecided. Unfortunately just when the weather couldn't get any worst, it did and the rain came down hard. Seeking shelter we headed for the nearest bar and then restuarant until it ... read more

Wow what a day! We started off slowly at Paddy's Market browsing around the stalls and grabbing a quick breakfast before we walked to the Sydney Fish Market via the Darling Harbour shopping center where Charlie finally purchased a pair of Uggs. The Fish Market was awesome (well for a fish lover). It took awhile but I managed to find some "Morton Bay Bugs" recommended to me by Melbourne Nick. They tasted just like Crayfish. I also finally tasted my first (well, half a dozen) Oysters. We then sat down for lunch. I had half a Mornay Crayfish & Charlie had a whole grilled Snapper. Suitably well fed we undertook our biggest Australian adventure and climbed the Sydney Harbour Bridge! The weather for once cooperated and we had beautiful sunshine and not a cloud in the ... read more

Charlie attempted her first inner city run this morning, unfortunately this was during early rush hour which made for slow progress! Afterwards we jumped on a ferry to visit Manly Beach. Once again the weather has seemed to conspire against us. Yesterday was sunny and hot, and we spent the most of our time indoors, today was cloudy and we were outdoors! Manly seemed to be a cool place with a fair few surfers out in the water. It was funny watching a lot of Japanese learning to online skate (even too cold for them), it may be a stereotype, but it's been the first time I've seen a Japanese tourist without a camera to their face! Lunch was a sandwich and soup (yep, really not beach weather) on the prom with our trusty fleeces. With ... read more
